However, like most people of his stripe, he eomes with now plans, new ideas, new devices and enough suavity to decoy even the most incredulous. The supreme assurance with which this fellow'makcs these declarations is strifeingly absurd, and earnestly do we hope for the good of oar Irish brethren that he may bo shown up by our brethren of the press. The New York World, in speaking of Col. The latest news from the British war against the Zula tribe of Africans comes by way of Capo Town, and says that on the "1st of January a British column, consisting of a portion of the Twenty-fourth Regiment, a battery of artillery and six hundred native auxilleries, were utterly annihilated near Tugcla River by 200,000 Zula?, who captured a va'.uiblo convoy, 102 wagons, 1,500 oxen, two cannons, 400 shot and shell, 1,000 rifles, 250,000 pounds of ammunition, 00,000 pounds of provisions and the colors of the Twentyfourth Regiment. A lot of highly educated, iutelligena men, who robbed the bank of millions of dollars and caused want and suffering to in vade the homes of thousands of hard working and industrious people, were sentenced to merely nominal terms of imprisonment in jail, where they will probably enjoy all the pleasures that wealth can bestow upon them, excepting only their liberty?eighteen months for the chief offender and twelve months for each of the others?no work for any of them. We hardly know how to express our surprise when wo hear that such justice has been dealt out in Britaiu?the nation above alt others that cluims to deal justly by every one, no matter what their station in life may be. Wc see, though, that it is as bad ( there as it is here?the greater the enlightenment the person has and the greater the cfimo committed, the less i ? # ' tho punishment, while the smaller the ' crime and more ingorant the person who commits it, the greater tho punishment.
