A. P. Aldrich, of BarnpsH, arrived in town on Friday night last, and left next morning, with his two daughters, who bad been spending some time with a friend. Mr. Aldrich was the first Jucfge who held a Court here after the war, in July, 1866, and man^ friends would have been glad to have seen him. Variable Weather.?Friday, Saturday and Sunday last, were the three coldest days of the season. The thermometer went down on Saturday morning to 15?, and ice was formed which was not affected by the sun.% A south-west wind sprung up on Sunday evenipg, whieh sent the thermometer up to 50?, and the weather has oontinued ? - warip up to^this time; but we may look out fordjr.oojd snap, now that winter his fairly * closed in upon us. The Temperance Celebration.?On account of the session of the Grand Lodge of A. F. M. in Charleston, on the 12th inst., Gen J, B. Kershaw, who was to have delivered the address at the public celebration of the Sons of Temperance on the 13th inst, will not be able to be present, and it is now pro posed to have the celebration And address, on Wednesday evening, Dec. 18, at Town Hall. - ' -iThe following is the programme for the occasion. Wateree Division, witft the visiting * brethren of Pine Tree, Smyrna Church * Lynchwood and Sawneys Creek, will assem* ble at Temperance Hall at 7 o'clock. The procession will then be formed and marched to the Town Hall. The speaking will begin at 7* o'clock. The Committee on music have secured the assistance of several amateurs who have kindly consented to participate in the ceremonies, and it is expected that there will be excellent music. The visitors will be taken care of for tho night, and Grand Worthy Patriarch A. M. Kennedy requests that a large number from each Division will attend and make the occasion memorable. Another Conflagration.?On Tburs?iotr mnrnlncr last, about three o'clock, an O ? alarm of fire was sounded on the Hermitage plantation of Mr. Adam Team, and it was discovered that his large two-story barn, containing about three hundred buBhelsof com, fifty bushels of peas, and thirty thousand pounds of fodder and hay, was on fire. Having procured buckets, an effort was made to subdue the flames, which at one time was thought to be successful, bnt ip a few minutes, the flames again burst forth with renewed violence, and soon became uncontrollable. The barn was insured, but Mr. Team informs us that his Iobs above the insurance jyill not bo less than five or six hundred dol \ lars. We extend our sympathy to Mr. Team in his affliction, c ^ The fire was so bright that the alarm bell in town was Bounded, and the Ph?nix Truck Company turned out in ftiU force. The Ph?nix boys, though lately organized, aie very prompt, and^re promise of .being tery efficient in tho performance of their unpleasant duty of assisting nt fires, whioh we hope will be warded off from us. Turned Over.?C. Shiver, Esq., has turned over the Clerk's office te his successor, R. E. Wall, Esq., who has been duly qualified and received his commission. Jas. P. vRoswell, Esq., is making arrange ments to turn over the Sheriff's office to Capt. Sam'l. Place, his successor, and Judge Sutherland is about to turn over the Probate office to himself, as he is the duly qualified and commissioned administrator of the functions of that important office. 4 . : Coroner R. R. Player is about to qualify, and when he does get into office will be something like the man who bought the elephant, wo fear. However* friend Player'.'has taxes to fay, and he can use his county orders with good effect in that way. The new regime may now be considered as fairly afloat. Arrests and Imprisonment.?On Saturday last, Jack Johnson andHovern"6r Dunlap wore arrested upon the complaint of Mr. Adam Team, for stealing a bale of cotton from him, on the previous night. Wo learn that Jack Johnson brought the bale on a wagon to the Messrs.-Gerald's 'wagon yard on Friday night, and on Saturday morning, having procured a sample, he sallied forth to try tho market, but had not progressed far before the avenger overtook him, and ho was, without undue loss of time; lodged in jail. *' Jack then implicated Governor Dunlap, it being his team with which the cotton was brought into town. Governor was then arrested, and, now keepa his accomplico company in the jail. Gov. is about to be arrested under three other charges: one for being implicated in the Ficken assault-and battery case, one for cow-stealing, and tho third for stealing seed-cotton?so that, judging from appearances, Mr. Governor Dunlap will have his hands full at the next term of onr criminal Court* About a year or more ago, Gov., with several others, was convicted of grand larceny, in two cases, and sent to the penitentiary for three years, if our recollection is correct, but owing to the intimate terms existing between Gov. Scott and Gov Dunlap, the party was pardoned out after a compara tively short term of imprisonment. He therefore will come before the Court under a cloud, upoa the principle of "giving a dog a bad name &c," but there is scarcely a doubt but that he will receive justice at the hands of the jury. The epizootic still prevails, though it is not fatal in many oases. The Express Wagon has re-appeared, the horse having recovered from the hipporhinorrhea. The Chicken epidemic with the unpronouncable name, has made its appearance. The sudden decease of two ancient fowls has given rise to this report. The gallinamanualcepitetasportavit epidemic is abroad. The approach of the holi day season is the cause of this terrible disaster. The older birds roo9t so high that they use opera glasses to tell when their feeding time arrives. Since the exposure of the attempts made by certain unscrupulous local dealers to palm off their ooarse astringents, made from coarse and impure materials, in the plaee of the great national tonic, Hostetter's Stomach Bitters, public opinion has set strongly against theso empirics and their preparations. Their occupation is g or soon will be. When the lightls let into deception it soon wilts down. Persons who trifle with their cwn health by using unknown preparations, with no guoranteoto sustahn them when an established specific, prouen by twenty years experience to be exactly what it is claimed to be, is within their reach, are suretorepenttheir temerity. May hare done so in this instance, I but it is hoped that the truth plainly spoken has I arrested the evil. In the meantime the demand for the leading protective and restorative medietas ofjnerio* was never so great as it has been 1 this season.' Frohi the fever and ague districts of west, south west, and south, it is literally i overwhelming, and it may be said of the advices from all parts of the coutry of the cures it is | effecting in dyspepia, bilious complaints, and chronic constipation, that their name is legion. Everywhere the sick and feeble seem to have realized the importance of "holding fast which is good," anc avoiding that which is spurious and dangerous. The numerous "Bitters," under various names which rnorcennry dealers endeavor to suDsxume | for Hosteller's Stomach Bitters, should be avoided, for their own sakes, by the sick, and the publio at large. Hostetter's Birtersare procurable in bottles only, and never sold in bulk. liL- gggg?'"gy1WP , V The Camden Cotton Market. '{ Pamde.v, S. C. Dec. 5, 1872.
