The Cotton Crop of 1870. ^ The Agricultural "Department at! 'Washington has issued a circular which 'gives an increase to the cotton crop, ' and says: The crop this year will exceed 3,6000 bales; but the' indications . of the seasons thus far, report probabil ities of a favorable autumn for maturing and picking. Tbo top crop does not I prognosticate a return of the remarkable experience of the past season. In ! I860, discouragements and drawbacks j * appeared with the plant in the spring, and gradually disappeared. This season is culminating in almost unex' am pled favor with exemptions Trotu de' stroying frosts, blighting rain3, insects, and disease. The present crop was vigorous In early growth, runuing to weed Jrather than boll, and then burned with drought in August, and subsequently flooded with rain in September. .
