HU MORE SUITS AUAINST BIT-] ?A letter from In*ew York, ii! i Philadelphia LcJjit, says: ^^^Hknothcr batch of suits for the |HBry of damages has bee n | ^^BBnst Gep. Butler, in the Supreme Chambers. The plaintiffs are I ^^^Bomc casps citizens of .New Orleans, HB. in other cases citizens of YirgiH K, and all claim to be and have B^Bbn loyal men. The most serious of these complaints ^^or suits is based upon the allegation that Gen. Butler had, by virtue ofliis power iji New Orleans, compelfcd a |B Mr. Iloniwcll to transfer the steamer Carlotta worth $60,000, to himself personally for $40,000: in a currcnBkcy worth but $28,400; had, through ^^ ii3 agent, sent this vessel on afpfiBuatc venture for his own advantage, jBBhich it was insinuated was to s'up^^ Ty the rebels wjth quinine, &c.; and ^Bthcn through this agent, had charter^Bed it to the Oovernmsnt for ?350 per ^Bdny, though the original owner was ^Bwilling to charter it to them at $50 BHpcr day, and had ultimately "run her i Binder" near the end of the war, and Obtained for her $-10,000. It yras ^.laimed, therefore," that in no sense could it be said that- this had been hlone under authority from the Presiv dent or Congress. . r Gen. Butler's counsel contend that these acts were done in accordance . Lwith Government authority, and Snores, therefore, that they be transferred to a Federal court - for adjudication. The court promised a deciiei on in a day or two. -? xg i oMasonic'.?Yfe learn that B. R.
