The benefit which Texas would derive from a transaction of this kind, is almost incalculable compared to the alternative which is now before her people. VVe hope she will falter, and not conclude this treaty with the Federal Government, before the slave holding States has time to think over this matter; and by so j doing she may fortify herself from the ,'iggres1 sions of neighboring abolitioi ists, who w ill almost encompass her borders.
