V Tno Bsauiort Tribune. AV. AI. ritlSNC II i^litor unci L*i.*?i>rlot?>L* WEDNESDAY SEPT. 18, 1870. A dispatch received last evening stated . that all differences had been amicably ' arranged, and Mr. Chamberlain was to be the unanimous choice of the convention. A mounted rith: club was organized at Earl}* brunch on Friday last numbering Bcventy-six men. Wm. Stokes wns! chosen captain. The strikers were brought up before tiial justice Carleton yesterday for trial,' but owing to the abser.ee of Sheriff Wil- ! bou, who is an important witness, the' casi. wub postpmcl i'll Saturday next, j ) Passengers returning to Southwest Georgia and Florida, by wpy of the Savannah and Charleston Railroad, are transferred to the Atlantic and Gulf Railroad train, three tniles south of Savannah, and as they do not enter tho city, . arc not liable to quarantine further V Smith. / The third strike of t lie Coinbahco rice hands has been ended tbrougli the exertions of Congressman Smalls. lie arrived at Ballouvillc last Thursday and addressed the rioters, told them they had no right to interfere with the hands on the plantations or to intimidate or assault them, or abuse and imprison the wnuo men in Hissc'.Fa ston. In reply they t )ld him, lie had bceu bought up by the white men. But he finally persuaded them to disperse. Tlie Beaufort Democratic Club held n meeting 1 :st Thursday evening to complete their organization ntid get things in working order. The meeting was largely attended but the limited accommodations prevented the larger part ot the crowd from taking any part in the proceedings. President Elliott delivered a v.xy sensible and imcres'ing address. The number of members waj increased to 72. ab ul twenty ot whom were colored men. The following members were npp'ir.hd on the executive committee .1. II. Clancy, W. II. I)<v in, Ahram Jenkins, Dr. II. M. Stuart ami A. S. Davenpoit. Governor Chamberlain has issued a proclamation, culled f or by the riot in Charleston, in which lie snys: "I do proclaim mj purp is; to pr serve the public peace of sai 1 city by all the powers at my command, and to s>-<uie to every man, of whatever political party, the right to speak, act ai d vote freely and safely, without constraint or danger, in the present political campaign. . And I admonish all my fellow-titizens again that violence begets violence, that freedom of speech and < f poiiical action are sacred lights which can never be Iran.pled on without rousing r. spirit of vengeance and retaliation. The spirit ol political intolerance, in all it-; forms, is the direat curse which now oppresses our State, and peace and prosperity will never come until that foul spirit is finally exorcised. Every thoughtful man and every good citizen should give his utmost influence to preserve the public peace by securing perfect freedom of political action." The yellow fever has spread all over the city of Savannah and the .death rate is daily increasing. One feature of the disease is that it is now attacking the coiorca population who have always been considered almost exempt from this scourge. Another feature is the number ofchildren who fn'l victims to flu-disease. 8 mday the intcrir.cn's from deaths from yellow fever were 3 colored. 2 grown whites and 7 white children. It is now estimated that at least 500 people in the ci y arc now down with the fever. C. D. Lyons arrived in New York on ^ Monday from Savannah and was taken ^ from the hotel 10 the quarantine in the bay, where lie died of black vomit. Two sailers from Savannah on the steamship San Jacinto are prostrated with it in the harbor. No fears are entertained of its visit to Beaufort, as every precaution is taken to prevent its introduction. Capt. Tnvctl is still ut quarantine, and persons having goods on his vessel are expecting to sutler considerable losses The Baltimore steamer bound for Snvam nali came into Port H?>yal and disoharg cd her cargo which was forwarded by rail.
