On Friday morning a meeting was held at the hank and a committee of twelve appointed to receive his Excellency and make such arrangements as they should think best for his entertainment. The committee, accompanied by the band met the Governor at the depot and escorted him to the hotel where rooms had been engaged for hitn. After dinner lie was driven over town by the shenfti, and after his speech he received many of our citizens at his room. A note was,received from Commodore CI it 7. inviting the Governor br visit the licet and on Saturday the Commodore's bnrge and steam launch came up, and his Excellency accompanied' by a dozen or more citizens went down the river. They were cordially received and entertained by the Commodore and his officers, and after an hours chat were shown ovc t'10 ship. The Governor, accompanied hy the Commodore and the most of the party, then visited the monitors Dictator and Catskill. O11 leaving ihe New Hampshire the Governor was honored with a salute of nineteen guns and nil the vessels hoisted the union jack. The party returned just before dark after a very pleasant suil and in the evening a reception was given by the Governor at the hotel. Mr. Chamberlain left tor Columbia on Sunday morning seemingly much pleased with his visit.
