A bottle of whisky was found lying by his side when he was picked up. lie was placed on the pass enger train, an.I convey .id to the hospital in Auguata where lus arm was amputated close to the shoulder. A bill is before Congress to appropriate thirty thousand dollars for the purchase of the building now occupied l?y the collector of this port for the use of the Government. 1 l.c bill provides that the ^ * 8?crotary of the treasury is authorized and directed to purchase the property - together with such adjoining property as I may be necessary to provide accomuio- t j datiun for the custom house nnd post office, including such wharves and build I inps as may be required by the light hoilso board. In There is not the least danger of the United States purchasing this property at uny such figure, or any other price* a. tue condition of the building and lte ?h: value are well known in Washington and ^ this is sufficient ground for believing ita purchase by Uncle Sam will never b< at made, it is easy enough to introduce a bill in Congress, but when it cornea to ire i>f i >a*scd there Comes the rob. ;ta - ? v'OI Dr. P. F. Wilder, luto Treasurer of 1 ieaul'ort County, returned from C'o'.umlna yesterday, having effected a satisfactory ^ and tin il settlement with the State, for funds collected and disbursed during hit; term of office. The Dr's enemies have sought frequent occasion to assert that he <\ was a defaulter for a large amount, when they well knew that the amount charged against hitn was for taxes due on nulla bona executions. When all of his accounts were balanced Dr. Wilder received from trie Comptroller a warrant for over F twenty-five hundred dollars for money j" paid the State while lie was Co. Treasur- cat er, over and above the amount collected 10 by him. This will probably be a suffi- ^ cient answer to his maligners.
