came up to Beaufort last Mondav,
and on her way up the river discovered a

her delight that she sat on the barnc all

will be here again in a few days if she does

ground extends from St. Helena sound to
Fcrnandina.

year. We are in favor ol this action as

JpgfMr. J. A. "Whitman, proprietor of
the Beaufort Machine Shop, has occupied
his spare time in building a steamboat
for his own comfort. The craft is a cred
it to its builder and shows that he knows
. his business, as he not only built the boat
; but oIbo the boiler and the entire engino
in his own shop. An experimental trip
shows that the boat can make ten miles
an hour, and can conveniently carry
twenty-five passengers. The engine is
constructed with all the modern inventions
and although we had it all explained
to us our head is too thick to rememl?cr
the various new wrinkles which go
to make her a model craft.

Og The Town Couiieti.
The town council met in the council
chumlicr Wednesday Oct. 18, all the
memlicrs present. The Intendant being
al?cnt Warden (luge, as acting Intendant,
| presided.
The committees on account and finance
asked further time, which was granted.
Warden Boyce gave notice of an Ordinance
to raise supplies for the year 1875
and for other purposes, which passed the
first reading. Warden Washington gave
' ' notice of an Ordinance fixing the salary
of the Intendunt oftlie town, which passed
its first reading. This Ordinance
provides a salary of $600. to the Intendunt.
A certificate for $42,75 was ordered
in favor of J. C. Rivers, late marshal,
the balance due him on salary. A petition
from the citizens in regard to tho

a modification of the same, was received

the refusal to receive freight in Bavaunah
by way of the 8. & C. R. R., and
finds the river quite us con vel neat to supply
Savannah with Augusta cotton.
