We do not refer particularly to our county where we believe that some cf the objections named as existing in others with which we are acquainted are obivated by having a school commissioner who is not only in educated and competent man, but one who is zealously and faithfully seeking to eradicate the abuses to whi< h the notably defective system of free instruction is liable. At present the most crying cause of complaint, in our county is (lie utter incompenteucy of the teachers employed and the conspicuous self sufficency of the ignorant colored pedagogues who arc possessed of second and even J first class teachers certificates issued by equally indiscriminaliiig examiners.' whose measure of fitness is calculated by the dusky political complexion that the applicant can betray and not to the j amount of instruction he may l>c capable of imparling. If even this farcical squandering cf the school salaries upon unworthy recipients does not become revolutionized we need scarcely congratulate ours.lv '.'s upon having a graduate of Harvard occupying the r. sponsible and delicate duties of Public School Commissioner, and that office with the other machinery that is part of the disreputable and unpopular imposition that is producingso much dissatisfaction even among the colored voters. The atmosphere is teaming with wholesome desire j lot reformatory measures and a spirit of j tolerance for the correction of abuses is | rife in almo t every d partmcnt of our State Administration. We sliAuld cheer fully witness and approve of a liberal tax being levied in our county for Educa tionai pupcscs, b it we insist up.in a fair and intelligent h andlii g of the funds without fear or /avor.
