t BKAUFOKT. S. C. JUNK 10 1*75' ( Tlic Steamship Nashville had on ' board from Florida last week, 3,000 watermelons and 500 boxes of vegeta- i blc9. She took on board at Port Hoy-41 al several score barrels of potatoes. A marked improvement seems to have J taken place in the regularity of the trains on the railroad since Mr. Wilson took charge. We can now ex-1 poet our mails on tiuie and not bj disappointed. The Worcester base ball, club will i play the Cosmopolitans on the green next! Monday. Good playing may be expect ' ed as both clubs arc confident of winning this, the odil game, and the ball. I Minty Rutlcdge, ;i child hardly two i years of age was found drowned in a | well on Otaheitc plantation near Port j Royal Ferry, yesterday. Dr Johnson i held an inquest on the body. Witness and Jury tickets arc selling at thirty cents on the dollar. There never was a time that they were not worth seventy five cents while Kuh and Wilder j were county treasurers. C. C. Bowen and Eli C. Grimes were indicted last Weduesday in Georgetown for the murder of Col. White in 1804, and the case is set for trial next Tuesday. Mr. Whippcr of our town is one ot the attorneys for the defence. Abbeville pays only $6. 45 per month for the support of its paupers, while its pau pers cost Beaufort county about $200, a month. Our county trusurer runs the almshouse now. He gets all the good things. ? Attention is'callcd to the advertisement | of the School Commissioner in another column, announcing an examination of cundidutos for admission to the State ] University. The examination will he held July 5th. The Barnwoll-BIackville case seems to be unsettled although the records have been removed to Blnckville, where they have been followed by the clerk of court and the county commissioners. The Sheriff and cpunty treasurer still remain in Barnwell, and it is reported that the county auditor has taken to the woods. At it aoaix.?From Ilardecvi'.le comes a fresh tale of horror. Hardly has the Coroner with his attendant P. P. returned to his abiding place, than the body of a man is found with tho neck broken. An inquest by these two worthies is inevitable. A pleasure party made up of the bar and their friends including Judge Mahcr took a trip to the fleet last Saturday to sec the big ships. The party were all day getting there in a sail boat and nearly all night getting back in a terrific storm that gave them a thorough wetting, but did not dampen their j The town council met last Wednesday as a court of justice to try a case of al | leged riot and disorderly conduct by a i festive crowd of young people who met j at the house of Iletty Chisolm to have 1 a dance. The evid rco so med i to point to Morris Gardner who wnh an j open razor in his hand was the cause of j the trouble and he was relieved of six ; dollars for his fun. An order has been issued by the United j States court in Charleston giving I), j ('. Wilson Receiver of the Port Royal | Railroad authority to borrow $40,000 j to ]?ay off the laborers employed on the I road for the past few month*. This will j l>c good news to many of the men in j Rcnufort to whom the road is indebted ! for labor. The commissioners of the Frcedman's Savings Bank, believe that hv ter, they will be ablo to distribute a first dividend of 20 per cent, to the depositon. This will amount to $000,000, and will be mostly realized from the investments made in Washington. The investments at the Southern branches are in almost every case a total lost. The commissioners think that ultimately a second and possibly even a third dividend , of 20 per cent, may !>e paid, but this will depend upon their success in compelling the borrowers on the bank to pay their liabilities. At present the commissioner have over $400,000 collected, which is lying in the United States treasury and drawing no interest, on account of the failure of Congress to provide the authority for the payment of interest.
