S6&T On Wednesday morning, a couple of fellows Ben Rhettand Henry Foster, who veiy probable were well eoaked with their morning dram, were in a boat in the stream, when opposite the phosphate dock, they voluntarily engaged in a butting match. Henry at first thought his head to be the hardest, but was soon deceived in his idea, by a couple of woll directed blows from the prow of Ben, which sent Henry to the bottom of the boat. Lucius Cuthbert is said to have given an interesting account of ihe religious destitution of Beaufort, S. C., and a missionary is to be sent here according ly. We think the trouble is that the tenergies of the christians are scattered too much. One church would hold all the white christians in the town, and there will be plenty of room on warm, cold, or wet Sundays Instead of supporting one church, well they distribute themselves thinly over three or four churches, and all languish. The Citizens iSaving bank of Columbia has gone into voluntary bankruptcy, although it reports its assets to the amount of four hundred thousand dollars over its liabilities. HsjTA meeting will be held in Charleston on the 11th instant, to aid (he Air Line railroad which is designed to connect Chicago with the couth Atlantic. We have just seen, for the first tim< in the hands of a friend, a neatly printe pamphlet of forty pages, from the pre.' ofTurnbull& Bro's., publishers to tfc "Southern Historical society," Bait more. It contains the proceedings < the Southern Hi-torical conventioi which assembled at the White Sulphi Springs, Va., 14th August, 1873. Delegate* were present from Loui-iani Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama, Te: as. South Carolina, Kentucky, Man land, Mississippi, Missouri, Tennesse an i Virginia. The convention was held at the it stance of the "Southern Historical Soc ety,M an organization formed in the cit of New Orleans, in 1869. Upon th commendation of that society, its hea quarters were removed to Richmont Va. An entire reorganization has bee the result; followed by the election, o the second day of the session, of the fo lowing officers: President, Gen. Juba] A. Early, ofV; Viee-President, Hon. R. M. T. Hut ter, of Va. Secty. and Treas., Col G. W. Mui ford, of Va. Thirteen "Vice-Presidents of States were also elected for a like number < States, and one for the District of Colun bia. A special meeting of the society wt called by the president, Gen. Early, it Sept. 16th. On that day an address wi delivered byJAdmiral Semmes, in rcvic of comments on his career as a nav commander in the service of the lal confederacy. The text has not yet bee nublished. A large portion of the above public tion is taken up with the address of Gei Ear'yjbefore the convention. The Gei eral certainly needs reconstruction; bi there is little doubt that many, vet many, ofthe readers of itjshare the sent ments it proclaims.
