Rhodes Informs us that It Is pur posed to clear a channel on the down trip, which will permit the passage of u boat with from 30 to 40 feet breadth. After tills temporary channel is created to the month of the Wateree, the steamer will then return upon her work of mak ing permanent improvements. . Capt. Rhodes s*v* that the Wuteroe la suscep tible of being made an excellent stream for purposes of nnvlgatlon, and thinks the present appropriation of fl&.OOO will jro tar towards completing; the work. The first appropriation for this purpose was $8,000, which, with the present ap propriation, mukty $33,000 already set iislile for the Improvement of the Wa teree. Collarless Cars. Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of S. C., Gen. John D. Hla audience waa "held spell bound'' for nearly hu hour by his eloquence. The band gave us "Dixit* " In excellent atyle at the conclusion of Gen. K's. speech. What more can we ark than tho en joyment of such able addressee and such excellent music by a brass band? Can we but "forget to arrange for anything more glorious to come?" On this occa sion, some of us were so completely car ried away by ihe rapturous "Joys of the moment" as to forgwt that there was yet a feast far the inner man. which had been prepared and arranged by the more thoughtful and practical matrons. At about-2 o'clock the pioccssion was again formed and inarched to a beautiful grove at the foot of the Rock, when a table about one hundred and titty feet long was found heavily laden with tempt ing viands. The moat fastidious epicure could here find all that eould be wished. The arrangement of tho table, lemonade stand, Ac., was suited to the pleasure and convenience of everyone. After the four hundred and torty seventh olnirn upon the fruits of the kitchen had been presented, your cor respondent beheld the forms, In the dis tance, of three prominent (?) members of the mystic-fraternity, making for the table; ai.d when asked for an expla nation of their tardiness, they replied that they had been in search of some good water. 1 will here state that the spring (which afforded good enough wa ter (or everybody else) was within one hundred feet of the table, tho' it I* pos sible that the water at our esteemed friend's (a quarter of a mile from the ground") is better. Nevertheless, they were in time to get an ample supply of everything that is good, lemonade was made by the barrel and everybody who could get in reach got their All. Dinner whs hardly over with befaro the music struck up and the more worldly inclined wereitrlpplng the light fantastic, which was kept up until late in the evening. There had been a splendidly arranged stand or platform constructed for that purpose in the shade of the grove. Nothing occurred during the entire day to mar the pleasure and happiness of anyone.
