We have watched the different Counjy Conven UonB, and kre gratified at the harmony whtcb pervades them and the undoubted unity Of the party* The enthuslaam ex hibited Is also very cheering, and we see tn the political sky every assurance of victory. Like a warrior girding on his arijnor for tjie battle, our Deraooratlo hostaatt putting on theirs, and looking well to any looseness of the joints of tpe harness which maybe perceptible.. In the reorganization bf clubs and se er Mons of County Chairmen there Is ex hibited commendable 'seal, and where the old officers refine to serve the selec tion of their suoofessbra is made with an eye to the; supoefra of the party rather than to personal ambition. There is no danger of any ^ Independent movement, and -the disquieting fears which had taken possession of some of our people have been completely exor olsed. The difference of opinion as to the merits of the respective gentlemen who are being advocated for Governor will continue until the nomination Is made by the Convention, and then all will be serene, and In a few days there after even any possible soreness which may be occasioned will have passed away. In the meantime we bespeak perfect fhlmess, and open dealing in dis cussing their merits and let fkir play oon trol us all. And as the several County Conventions nicetand then the State Con vention, let harmony and unity control them. We aro pleased to notice the good tem per of everybody on the subject of the nomination tn June. It haa ceased to be a subject of contention. ? The outlook Is'oheertng, and with con cert of action and energy we will roll up tn November an overwhelming majority all along the lino. But we must not relax our efforis ot suffer ourselves to become overconfident,' Vigilance U not only the price of liberty, but of party pcess. A GRACEFUL TRIBUTE. Tbennintmoueaotton of the Ohio De mocracy In Instructing their delegation to roteibr the Bon. A. Q. Thurman at aiKrfnnatf V * graceful tribute to this old war-horse of the Constitution and the Union. A pure man end * devoted pa triot, he baa stood by the party In Its darkest days without lowering his colors or abating ble fceal and Intcreet In Its be half. Earnest, upright and of the high-' eat order of talent, he commands the ree peot of all tru*Beft6aat?, ind if he wail an available candidate the South W^uM I delight to join In tendering htm the nora-1 lnatlon. We do hot, however, regard him as such, and see no proftpedt of his bolng nominated.'' The defeat of Ewlng last Fall removed him from the list. We! jwjMlpe to tee this manifestation of his standing In his party at homo, and ro gatf.it.if, .iije highest t^hnMj whtqb, nrmlrti m-.imIA ?? It took considerable electioneering and pressure to make the latter pledge their delegation to the Secretary of the Treats ury.as Blaine was evidently the choice of ? a vory lar^ portion of the partj'. Judge Thurman will not receive the nomination, but this action Is a tribute, which will oonsole him on retiring from polltioal lifts, < To retain the undivided rfepeot. ahd confidence of his party dlninjg thirty ycara of publlo life, speaks volumes for him. - ? - ? '-.v . j r<,V t \ IV OUR AGRlCULTUR AL BUREAU. Tho wisdom of establishing an Agri cultural Bureau wOl be seen jrtore and more the longer It continues in Opera tion. The Legislature ,was happy In selecting as lta ehtef so thoroughly practical and zealous a chief, Cqil. - A. P. Butler. , Systematic, painstaking and courteous, he brings to bear In the dis charge of his duty a large experience and devoted attachment. lie Is a great work or, and Is utilising every means at his command to m*lce It a tucc<!>is? He has already odliitot&tl apeoimehs of the min eral wealth of the State which he fs tending abroad, and Is compiling the; most thorough statlstloe of our Industrial resources and agricultural products. Parties are writing him from tho North and Northwest In relation to the same with eye to Immigration, and we pre dict the most beneficial result* from hl? labor. As head a|so of the Phosphate and Pish interests of the State he Is realising alt that can be made , out of the former, while he II pushing the latter to emi nent sueeess. It Is a pleasure to vlalt his department at the Capitol, and we suggest to our agricultural friends when they visit Columbia to be sure and coll on him. They will always find a hearty, old fkshtoned Carolina weloome. This old veteran, who bears on his person the visible attestation of his gallant*^- and devotion to hts State,' delivered one of the most finished/chaste and Appropriate addresses we have ever listened to. Gifted .with extraordinary power as * speaker, he eve* excelled himself, &e wm clour, forcible and yet sufficiently subdued to suit the place and thenie. Hts tribute to thO Confederate Boldlers and analysts of mftMny devotion "f GBAJRT AN? TUB KBPUBLICAN NOMINATION. As the time approeehes for the nomi nation of Its candidate at Chicago, tfee deep-seated diMatiafactlon of a large por tlon of the Republican party at the third term aspiration* of ex-President Grant becomes more and more oped and avow ; ed. Tbe Eastern States eschew it while in New York and Pennsylvania It will take all of.the power and management of Oonkling and Cameron to force their del egations to support htm. In the former there is anti-third term party In open hostility to hlra, and In tbe Northwest the opposition Is so strong as to alarm his friends. Including the votes from tho South he has not eren a majority of the votes necessary to secure his nomination. From the present outlook thero will be a stormy time; His friends claim that Blaine and Sherman will prefer him to any other candidate named if they fell to get the nomination themselves. This may be so, but it may turn out as it did at Cincinnati, that some dark horse, now the weakest of all mentioned may come in winner. Hatters have certainly ta ken an unexpected turn, and his friends no longer rely on the magnetism, Of his name hut are actively and vigorously at work. They constitute a power, and have brains and pluok and propose to Imitate their illustrious candidate by fighting it out on the line they have star ted on. Unlike him, however, they have not reserved forces to call to their assis tance. COUNTING THE ELECTORAL TOTE. The bill Introduced by Senator Mor gan on tho 5th Inst., providing for oount Ing the electoral vote In future, will, If adopted, simplify the process and pre vent a recurrence of the trouble of 1876 or the necessity of any more electoral commissions. There la no difficulty when but one return is made by a State. When there are objectlona to any eleo tora each Hpuae la to come to lta owii conclusion, and If they do not conour In rejecting them they are to be counted aa a whole. The question as torcceiving, opening and oountlng la settled, and tho whole eobeme obviates the different eon^ structlons which political parties wovM plaoe upon tha returns aa the law tiOw stonds. -? ,vr SHERIFF'S SALE.
