This wonderful cotton, after a most critical teat, baa been pronounced more prolific than its formidable rival, the ?'Cheatham," aud posses s several valu able characteristics cioiuicd for do other variety, vi* : tho multi-lock boll, at tin rate of 15 to 20 per cent, to tho stalk. | bearing front G to 24 locks to the boll. , with a progressive tendency ; and is not only more prolific in seed cot'on, but the yiold of lint is f <r greater, having ginned oat 45 lbs. lint from 100 lbs. isthat'it will admit close planting both | in tho row and drill, thus largely in creasing the number of stalks to the row or acre. From careful experi-; lnenta it has been demonstrated that close planting ha* produced tho greatest yield. It not only c'xccls in heavy but in uniform fruitage, no barren stalk having ever been seen in it. The staple, too, ia admitted to bo far superior to ordinary short cotton ; its texture being long, tino nml of a beautiful cream color. Tho Prodigy is not bo dependent on rich soil or heavy fertilizing to secure a w^tvicld, as ordinary cotton, ns it had been planted on old exhausted land without 'any fertilizer or manure and yielded a heavy bale tu the acre. Ou good land moderately fertilized and petted the yield has been fVom 5 to G bales to the " aero. All that is herein claimed for this cotton can be substantiated by planters of high positiou and undoubted veracity. With no disposition to disparage the Cheatham or any other variety, 1 claim the right of establishing the merits <>r " th3 lVodigy Cotton, and now big to re fer to several gentlemen who have fully tested both varieties the past season. Summing up the whole, I challenge the world to produce a cotton combining ?us many advantages and excellencies a.s the Prodigy Cotton. TESTIMONIALS. Dr. M. Kellcy, of Williamsburg, S. C., says that lie bad ubaudouded the plan, ting of cotton until ho saw Cannon. Prodigy Cotton growing ; that he plan ted iu 1875 two acrcs, on old exhausted laud, without extra quantity of manure or cultivation, which yielded 3 heavy bales; is satisfied if tho seasons had bocn favorable it would have made 5 bales ; would adviso his fiionls to buy Prodigy cotton seed, thus increasing their crops, agreeable to his experiments, from 200 to 300 per cent. He ginned out 100 lbs. of seed cotton, which yiel ded 45 lbs of tho most beautiful liut he over saw. Mr, John Colliu9, of Williamsburg. 8. C.j.caya he planted a small quantity of Cannon's Prodigy cotton; that it yielded three times as much as his oth cr cotton planted on similar laud, aud with the eamo cultivation. The ry spell in May caught it in the ground and it never got up until June. 1 mado 3820 lbs. to tho acre. Itev. Ed wards, of Sumter, said that he made at tho rate of 5000 lbs. to the aero. ? Mr. W. D. Bardin, of N. C.,- said that tho latter part of July last, he was offered 2 bales of cotton fori of nn aero planted with J'rodigy cotton seed, which ho rofnscd, believing he would make 2 bales, and would not take any price for tho seed. His cotton was blasted by tho drought, but he mado at tho rate of six bales to tho aero. Mr. J. M. "Wqddill, of Society Hill, 8.0;, says thut ho made at rate of 41K)H lbs., to the ncro with Cannon's Prodigy cotton seed ; believes it to bo the most prolific cotton he over saw ; would not take nuy price for tho seed he had pro cured from a small quantity planted last, your. Mr. W. D. Crosslund, of Marlboro, 8. C , ono of tfio most practical and sue* ccssful planters of tho 1*00 I>eo section, says that ho planted n small quantity o! Cannon's Prodigy cotton ; it yielded tit tho ruto of over f>000 pounds to tin? acre; tho soasoti was much injured by n fear ful storm that swept over his plantation. Mr. W. K. Dixon, of TJiihopville, Sumter Co., S. C., snys : ''Tho l'rodi py cotton is no humbug. It fir exceeds in its boaring any cotton ho ever saw." Mr. Sydney Moore, of Lynchburg, S. C., says ho planted about k of an ticrc with Cannon's l'rodi^y cotton, on a poor slope of ft Hold of 30 or 40 acres planted in ordinary cotton. From said J of tin ncro ho gathered 500 lbs. seed cotton, which satisfied him fully that tlio Pro digy cotton has no equal in productive* iicss, and that it oxcoeded tho represen tation made of it by Col. Cannon, the disoovcrcr and propagntor of said chU?>ii. The Prodigy cotton has been t< sted by numorous planters in bis neighborhood who concur in tho opinion tliat it far ox coeds any other variety of cotton in it* wonderful yield. Mr. Samuel Clnrk and Mr. II. IT??lli? man, of Majfsville, 8. C., Bay that they planted a sun'l quantity of vannonV Prodigy cotton," known as the "(iold Drop" sclcction, tt> wit: from 8 to 1 I look bolls I which far cclipsed anything they over behold. On one stalk there grew 8, 10, 12,14, 16, 18, 22 and one boll of 24 locks! and tho same stalk maturing about 300 bolls. Dr. P. L. Zemp, of Cumden. say* that ho has roudo a fair text of Camion's Prjdlgy Cotton J considers it superior to any ho has over seen. Ho planted the Prodigy slid tho Cheatham last year, sido by sldo, and does not hesitate to say that tho Prodigy is far superior to tho Cheatham.
