AN ORDINANCE " ESTABLISHING A MARKET IN THE TOWN OF CAMDEN: t SECTION 1ST.?Ik H Ordained hj the Iniendant and Wardens of the Town of Camden, in Council now'Assembled. That n Market bo and is hereby es tablished in the Town of Camden, for the sale of all Butcher's Meat, Poultry and Vegetables, in the Market Uouse, next to the Bank of Curadon. Section 2d.?That no Butcher's Meat, Poultry or Vegetables, (other than Potatoes) shall bo offered for eale'ct any other placewithin the limits of said Town, unless tho samo shall have been previously offered for sale in tho Market, during Market hours, for at least one liourpand-until the closing of the Market on the day when the said articles shall bo offered for sale. Section 3d.?-Tho Market shall be opened daily (Sunday excepted) for three hours, commencing at six o'clock, a m., from the 21st March to tho 21st day of September, and at seven o'clock the remainder of the year, and on the afternoon of Saturday from five to eight o'clock. Section 4th.?The Town Marshal shall be, ExOffieio, "Commissioner of the Market, and in bis absence the Intendafit shall have power to appoint a Commissioner, pro tern Section Stu.?If any article shall be offered for sale in the said Market, wbicli shall be condemned as unsound,or unwholesome, upon examination by one of the "Wardensof the said Town, tho same shall be destroyed, and the person offering such nrticle for sale shall be liablo to be finedat the discretion of the Town Council, not exceeding Twenty Dollars ($20). Section 6th.?It shall not be lawful for any article herein enumerated to be offered for sale by any slave, without the written permit of the owner or other person having charge of such slave, specifying the ar- i tiele authorized to be sold, under penalty of forfeiture of such article, upon tho fact being established . to the satisfaction of one of lite Wardens of said Town. , Section Ttxi.?Any person who shall oppose, abuso < s or insult the Commissioner of the Market in discharge | Ing his duties, shall be fined at the discretion of Council, in a sum not exceeding Twenty Dollars, for each and every offence. Section IOtii.?Any person violating any of the provisions of this Ordinance or any Regulations made by Council, in pursuance of tho samo, other than those, the penalty of which has been herein before.specified, shsul be liable to be fined at the discretion of Council, iii a sum not exceeding Twen fy Dollars for each and every oflence ; and the Commissioner of tho Market shall be subject to tho same penalty for each and every neglect of his duties, under this Ordinance or the Regulations of Council for the government of said Market. Section 11th.?Nothing herein contained shall be so construed as to prevent the sale as heretofore of any living Cattle, Sheep, Hogs or Poultry. RE IT ORDAINED BYTIIE INTENDANT AND WARDENS OF SAID TOWN, IN COUNCIL ASSEMBLED, That a Tax for the sums and in the manner hereafter mentioned, shall be raised for the use and service of the said Town. That is to say 1 Seventy-five (75) cents per head on all slaves owned or employed within the said Town, whether the same belong to a resident or non-resident. On all Slaves hired out within the said Town, for more than one month at a time. One Dollar ($1) each; and upon all Slave Mechanics working in said Town forsix months or more at a time, (the property of non-residents) Two Dollars''($2) per head, to be paid by the person employing such slavo, if a nonresident On each Free Negro, Mullatto or Mestizo, under the age of fifteen years, Fifty (50) cents. Over the age of fifteen, and under fifty years of age, Three Dollars ($3> Over fifty years of ago, One Dollar, ($1). ($50) per day for every Circus exhibited within the said Town. Fourteen Dollars ($14) per day for representing, publicly, for gain or reward, any play, comedy, tragedy or farce, or other employment of tho stage, or any part therein ; orfo- exhibiting wax figures, or other , abows of any kind whatever. ( On every Pleasure Carriage, commonly used within the said Town, il drawn by two or more horses, Two Dollais ($2). If drawn by one horse, One Dollar * , Upon every Carriage, or Wagon commonly hired within said Town, if drawn by more thnn two horses, Five Dollars, ($5). If drawn by two borsos, Three Dollars, ($3).
