THE BREEZE OF SPRING. Dull winter hastens to be goneHe's disappearing fast ; The sunny hours are coming on? The stormy time is past. The ice no longer binds the rill, Nor snows their mantle fling; For every bleak and barren hil' Has kissed the breeze of Spring. I hear its inusie in the wood? It sighs along the vale; "Where summer flowers in beauty stood, It lingers in the dale; It plays upon the primrose batiks, And rests its merry wing; The droopiug snow drop kindly thanks The western breeze of Spring. Ah I well it knows where violets grow In the lone and sliady lane; It bids its sweet blue fav'rites blow, And onward speeds again. It wakes the flowers of the fiield, And they their offering bring? The flowers their sweetest incense yield To scent the breeze of Sprrng. The blackbird from the hawthorn bush Renews his lively strain; On topmost branches stands the thrush, And tunes his throat again; At close of evening calm and mild lie makes the forest ring With native wood-notes, clear and wild; He loves the breeze of Spring. The robin leaves his winter friends For hedgerows far away? Above his mossv nest he bends, And pipes his plaintive lay. The lark, uprising with the light, On merry mountain wing, Strains all his might till out of sight, And hails the breeze of Spring. A hundred voices till the air? The sun shines warmly down; Away with each intruding care, And leave the gloomy town. Come, roam along tho wood-path green? Hear nature's favorites sing? Enjoy the soul enlivening scene, And woo the breeze of Spring. Slgriralttirnl. j * Damp Stables. When I first cam.' to the farm which I now hold by purchase, I found two stables built mi-! der large trees and near a sprint: of water, with a northern aspect. My horses were S".;ii in a poor condition, with long and rough co tts. and ^ most always lax in their bowels, nor cou.d 1 ' get them up by extra food or J ighter work; but \ my cows suffered the most, for they were always sick ; their milk fell off, and their butter ; was poor, and of a bad color and ta?.ie, ami four of them slipped their calves before their j time. When tlifi snrinir ( in.o ihm- !<.!> lliuir ' ------ - -i o - ? "-,v winter quarters in a woise state than 1 had ever seen them, and two of them died from scours on going to pasture. On inquiiy, I found that the tenant had always heen what the neigh- i bors termed unfortunate in his horses and cat- j tie, and from that cause more than any other, j he had not been able to make both ends meet. | The truth flashed upon me in an instant, and ! in a very little longer time than it has taken ; me to tell my story, I commenced pulling; down my stables, the unlieallhiness of which j had been, I was convinced, the cause of all the ' evil and all the loss ; and it was not more than two days before there was not left one stone upon another of the whole fabric. I now set to work and erected another on higher gro.md, removed from water, and dry capacious yard ; and from that day I had neith- i er sickness nor sorrow in my uut-door household. My horses live on less food, are always sleek and in good condition, and iny cows are & credit to the keeper. Our butter brings two cents a pound more in the market, and for the ! last year our sales are more than double from . the same number of cows and the same pa- i turage, and no ntore premature calves. Instead of watering my cattle as heretofore, at the spring under the trees?the water cold, with a deadly taste, and bad color?I sunk a well and put in a pump; and at it a long trough in the yard for the summer, and another under shelter for the winter, my cattle slake their thirst without setting up their coats, as they used to j do after drinking at the hole under the tree. Even wh&? the water is warm, they were accustomed to shake all over as if they were in i a fit of ague of drinking their lii 1 of this water; and to this, with ihe bad aspect of the Stables, I ntliibnl all the sickness and misery which I have experienced am -iig my cattle I and horses ?Boston CuLivator. In answer to the iiujuirv, 1 beg leave to present the following, whieh by expcrieiiee I have found to give iho greatest quantity and best quality of milk. For every cow, boi! ball a b i-^licl of turnips; when boiled soft, add 4 quarts o. bran, mix well, and let it stand till cool.
