f Clmrtestou Market. January, 20. Cotton.?There was rpiite a good demand for most qualities of this article, for severa days preceding the date of our last publieatiou, which was freely and promptly met by sellers, at priees medicating rather a declining tendency, without, however, establishing any decided change in favor of purchasers. This fact having been clearly established at the < lose of business, our former quotations, as will be recollected, were renewed, and the market closed with the .Middling qualities quoted at'J i\ !) :i 4 : and Middling Fair. 10 a 10 l-4l\? ~ 7 O The present week opened with a moderately fair demand, the sales of Friday?the first day ?having reached some 1300 hales, at a range cf figures corresponding with the quotations given in our repmt of that morning; hut on Saturday the market was depressed, and these prices were with difficulty sustain?!?sales only S00 hales. The enquiry, however, was renewed 011 Monday, with a fair degree of activity. About 1500 hales were sold in the course of the day, and holders realized their asking rates. The sifted on Tneafc, A reached 1300 hales, at similar rates. On Wcdoeuday the market opened with a fair enquiry, and when the day closed, upwards of 12000 hales had changed hands, on terms indicating a full range of prices. The demand fell off yes terday, from what cause we are at a loss fo determine, hut the transactions, near 1000 hales, so far as pi ices were concerned, showed a firm market, with a slight advantage on the side of sellers, hut not sufficiently so as to influence us in making any. change in our previous quotations, and those we offer below are. therefore, the same as given in our review of the 13th inst., to which we would with confi deuce refer, as indicating the true position ol the market at the close of the week. The*reccipts, since our last, comprise 11,1S4, and the sales in the aggregate, in he same period, may he put down at 8935 bales, at the followinn prices, viz: 09 bales at 7 3 4 130 at ? ; 322 at 8 14; 121 at 8 3 8; 200 at 8 12; 184 at 8 5-8; 12S9 at 8 3-4 ; 222 at 8 7 8; 033 at 9; 238 at 9 1-8; 1200 at 9 1-4 ; 2.7(5 at i) 3 8 ; 002 at 9 1-2; 120 at 9 5-8; 1200 at 9 3-1; 200 at 9 7-8; 1453 at idP; 23 at 10 1-8; and 1(50 bales at 10 1 4c. ,We quote Ordinary to Good Oidiiinry, 8 a 8 8 4 ; Middling to Good Middling, 9 a 9 3 4 ; Middling Fair, 10 a 10 14 ; Fair, 10 1-2*; and Fully Fair and Choice. ?a?.* The market for all descriptions ol Long Cotton has been very quiet since our last. The reteipls during the previous fort night have far over reached the demand, whieh has depressed prices, and the transactions since our l;>t show a declining market, which v.:i? particularly the case in the Midd ing qualities, in which the few sales made have establish* d a decline of from 2 to 3c. In the higher and lower qualities no marked change has take.: place, but the market is unsettled and in its present position, it is impossible to give o her than nominal quotations?>ay, 20 a 28c. lot Flofidas, according to cleanness and fineness; San tees and .Mains and Middling Sea Islands, frcm 40 to 50c.; and very Fine and Fxtra, 45 to 55c. and upwards as in quality. CottN.?There was an arri\al this week of some 5000 bushels North Carolina, which were sold at 81 cents per Im-h. The stock having been materially reduced bv these comparatively heavy transactions, holders towaids the close of business asked and obtained rather high pii?es, but no permanent advance can be said to have been realized. Bagging am) Rope.-?These article*, as is usual at this season, have been entirely neglected, and prices are nominal. Western Rope of good quality lias been freely offered at S a 8 1-4 cents, without finding purchasers. Since the foregoing was written, we learn that 100 bales of (iunny Cloth were sold at 1 ; cents. Salt ?Some 10.000 sacks have been thrown upon the market by recent arrivals. There was none on sale w hen the first parrel was received, and the market opened at $2 per saek, and upwards of of 1000 sacks brought tins price. Prices, however, declined almo-l immediately, and it was freely offered yesterday at $1.25 per saek, but buyers were not disposed to purchase even at this reduction. Sugars.?
