Pre? sent?His Honor tlio Mayor, John Alex? ander; Aldermen Cooper, Pugk, Davis, Wells, Brown, Simons, Purvis, Carr, Thomas, Carroll and Griffin. Tho minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. Petition of sundry persons relative to Vigilant Firo Engine was referred to Committee on Fire Department; W. Ro hinson, to Ways and Means; Board of I Health to Committee on Streets and Market; communicaiion from Carolina National Bank to Committee on Public Buildings; bill of Hopson & Sutphen to Committee on Acconnts; report of Chief | of Police to Committee on Guard House. Alderman Carroll, from Committee on Accounts, reported back the following bills, and recommended payment: Streets?B. F. Griffin, $9.30; B. D. Senn & Son, $3.00; John Alexander, S32.J5; M. E. Alderman Purvis moved that his Honor the Mayor, tho City Attorney and City Treasurer, with the* Committee on City Hall, examine into the matter of a lease for Council Chamber in new City Hall. Carried. Alderman Carroll moved that tho Com? mittee on Public Buildings be instructed to examine tho contact between the city and P. S. Boatwright, and ascertain if the plans of the architect hove been car? ried out on the building of tho new Alms House. Carried. On motion of Alderman Carr, Resolved, That the City Clerk and Treasurer be, and ho is hereby, instruct? ed to advertise for bids for roofing tho market, according to plan in the hands of the Committee on Public Buildings; said bids to bo sealed and handed in to the Clerk by or before the next regular meeting, 27th July.
