The Last Arrest?Joe Crews Insti? gates the MuBOER of Dr. Shell.?Cap? tains Alley and Burnett arrested, on Thursday evening last, about 5 o'clock, thirty-two miles below Greenville, in Laurens County, John (alias Shanghai) Bolt (white) and lodged him in tho Greenville jail. He is charged with being concerned in the murder of Dr. Shell, of Laurens, in 18G8. When ar? rested, ho was ploughing in bis Held. When the officers started him from his home, his wife said to him: "Now, John, you reveal the whole story?I knOw it, and I will tell it, if you don't." John, however, only states that he believes Joe Crews and Adam Crews had tho murder committed. He was recognized by Wright Sullivan and Parks when car? ried into jail, as one of the men they had been plotting the murder with. Wright Sullivan (colored) is charged with the murder of Barton, of this County, and of having been engaged in several robberies here, and confesses to be one of tho gang who waylaid and killed Dr. Shell. He says ho was paid $40 by the party to do bis part of tho work, and that the murderous party was led by Adam Crews in person. Abraham Johnson, alias Dial, (colored,) is charged with being connected with tho murder of Dr. Shell, and was arrested in Wash? ington City. He is quite reticent, but says: "It warn't all niggers who were engaged in the killing of Dr. Shell." The next is a negro named Parks, who admits that he was present at the murder of Dr. Shell, and fired his gun in the air, to get the promised reward. He gives a full statement, and claims that Joe Crews is the man who engaged the party to commit tho murder. There are a fow others to bo arrested, and Captain Alley is looking after them. At all events, the officers have already sufficient evidence to convict Joe Crews and his son, Adam Crews, of instigating the murder, and they will be arrested immediately, charged with the commis? sion of tho horrible crime; and it may as well be said hero, the citizens of Laurens have never been wrong in their suspicion of the instigator of tho niurder of Dr. Shell. They havo predicted during the past seven years that Joe Crews put up the job. They now havo the mc-st con? clusive evidence. We have henrd it from the lips of some of these prisoners ourself. They are suffering in jail for tho acts of Joe Crews, and there is no telling how. much trouble be has brought upon the "poor," unfortunate negroes. His time has now come! It will bo recol? lected that Joe Crews has caused to be arrested a number of the prominent citi? zens of Laurens at various times charged, on tho most flimsy' evidence, of Ku hUnx murders. ' He hnS testified and run off a large number of persons ?all of which it has long been supposed, was done to cover up his own bloody tracks; but ho is now exposed to the public as a mon? ster of the deepest dye, and it is to be hoped that he will bo punished in pro? portion to tbeso great crimes. The ne? groes of Laurens, who ho has ruled with an iron rod, and intimidated and made to do his murderous work, will no doubt feel great relief at having his bad influ? ence over them broken. He has caused the negroes great trouble, and has brought several of them to bitter grief, and they aro now satisfied ho is not their friend. The preliminary trial of John Bolt, for the murder of Dr. Shell, took Slace before Trial Justices McBce and herman, yesterday, and ho was com? mitted to jail. The evidonco elicited is all that is necessary to fasten the instiga? tion of this murder on the Hon. (!) Joe Crews. ? Greenville News. Mr. L. Drucker, an old resident of Charlotte, N. C, died a fow days ago. The burglar who murdered Mr. Schute in Brooklyn has been arrested. A telegraphic lino to connect Newberry and Laurens is contemplated. Ham and Eggs for Breakfast.
