M wd.?Robert A. Chambers, of Phila?

near Hancock, In the Delaware di?
vision of the Erie Railroad. He wee
seen by the engineer of express train
No. 4, going E&st, as he stepped on
that track to escape a. Westward
bound freight train. The alarm wea
given, bot Chambers did not hear it.
The train was going at the rate of
thirty miles an honr. Jsme* Kein,
the fireman, jumped through tbe cab
window end ran to the pilot of the
locomotive, end shonted to the man,
but failed to make him bear. Howes
struck by the pilot end thrown into
the air higher than the smoke-stack.
He fell back on the pilot, with his
head down, hie feet near the) head*
light The Bremen instantly grasped
him by the leg and hold him until the
train was stopped. Chambers was
coDsiderably bruised, bat not danger
oo sly. Bot for the prsssnoe of mind
and bravery of the fireman, he would
have fallen from tbe oow-catoher to
tue trsck and been torn to fragments.
James Lettin is on trial in Bridge?
port,, Conn., for the alleged murder of
Ellen Lucas, a girl with whom he was
too intimate, and was lsst seen alive
going with Lettin towards the ravine
where she was afterwards found deed.
The remarkable feature about tbe trial
is that it to proceeding ' before 1 two
judge*,.lb*, accused waiving the Inter?
vention of a jury. ' We have ho recol?
lection of any other ease in whioh a
person has elected to be tried for a
capital prime by tbe oonrt without a
jury. -
The i*ndon correspondent of the
Boston Daily Advertiser says that the
report la well founded that the Frenoh
report is wall founded that the French
Prince Imperial is to marry the young?
est daughter of Queen Victoria, and
thst in oensequenoe of this arrange?
ment the Q loan haa endorsed the lest
loan put io oirenlttfon in England by
tbo Empress Eugenie.
A fount Of second hand bourgeois,
of ab oat 800 pounds, snd e fount of
minion, of about 600 pounds, can be
obtained at a very low price, (with "or
without , tbe necessary eases,) by early
application at Phomux office. 'A hand
press will bring a good impression.
The Legislature having knooked the
obnoxious "official organ'' Aot in the
