" LouiBVHAdB OoUBIEIl'Jo?BkALaSH?. VII Greet is a< second Washington," ? - Ben.- Butler declares that If the Oivii Bighta Bill ie passed* and en? forced, he will comeback to Congress, The more chance that the, passage and onforcomenfc of the bill may possibly retard suoh a moral and political peat! to Ooogteee ought to be sufficient to kill it too dead to akin. "Human life baa become altogether too oheap in this community," says the Cincinnati Gazelle. Well, why don't Ooogress send out an inveatigating committee, whilst the ?President ap? points a general of the army to aot as chief of police? Liotta, "the oharmicg little red haired obandelier-kioker," as she is styled by that exquisitely poetic jour? nal, tie St LouiB Rep ub lib an, is about to bestow upon San Francisco the gift of a $10,000 fountain. The people there, we fear, are not likely to appre? ciate it particularly, unless it oan be made to spout something more invigo? rating than oold water. Mr. Wright, of Iowa, has intro? duced a prohibitory liquor bill in the Senate. Wa perform a simple rite when we write that Wright is right in doing this; but the Badioal majority in Congress is not at all likely to sanc? tion any measure which is intended to restriol the untrammeled flow of whis? key in the Distriot of Columbia. The only objection that a majority has to the location of the Capitol, is that its nnoohsoiooable distance from the near? est still-house makee it too deuoedly long between drinks. The Chicago Tribune says of the I newly-eleoted Senator from Rhode] Island: ''Ambrose E. BurnBide is made up of about equal parts of luxuriant side-whiskers, insupportable egotism aud political bigotry. His brains, if he ever had any, long since ran to seed, and his skull is as empty as a farmer's, barn in the graaB-hopper country." . There is muoh truth in I thin, ..Burnside, so far from being1 qualified for the position of United States Senator, is hardly fit to be the editor of the Chicago Tribune. Spanish Intbicjubs.?A correspond? ent of the Boston Advertiser, who has apparently had exceptional opportuni? ties for. knowing the intrigo.es of the Spanish Bourbons in Paris, says he was told by Queen Isabella, three! months ago, that the "cost had been enormous, but the result would be ap? parent before the winter had passed." It took 81.000.000 to convert Serrano, and tho Qaeen is said to have spent in all' about $3,000,000. To raise this I bum, oho baa bad recourse to every possible expedient, even to selling her jewels ana laces. The Duo de Mont pentier also loaned 'Si;000,000 to Don Carlos, in hope to further the olaims of hin wife to the throne, aud there is ' generalirejoioiDg in French circles that he has lost it outright. Montpensier has also.secured the lore letters of the | queen mother, having bribed Don Francois d'Assisis, her ex-husband, to steal them for the reward of a valuable diamond.... By this infamous means bo expects, it is supposed, to over? throw Alfonso's legitimacy. John Chamberlain, the well kuown "sport" of Washington, is going to open a national race-truck in that oity. In the old days, Washington had a regular jockey club aud a fiue truck, upen which, in 1822, Eclipse beat Bir Charles, the favorite Virginia horse. The early ' Presidonts and CoogresB meu hud a passion for the turf, uud were slways present ut the race". Grant is probably at tho bottom of Chamberlaiu's plan tu restore the Na? tional Course. Lc will koep him from running off to Long Branch. Paudoned.?William James, con? victed at the August term of the Dis? triot Couit Ut Greeuville, of selling liqner without paying a speoial tax, and sentenced tosix months'imprison? ment and to pay, a fine of $1,000, has been unconditionally pardoued by President Grant. Wilson, of Baltimoro, Md., eays of this Guauo: "By a critical examination ol the analysis of tho varions cargoes you have imported, a striking feature iu tho great rcgulaiity in tho per ecu tage of the important constituents essential for the production of all crops." Prof. F. A. Gcntb.of Philadelphia, renn., says: "JLho Guano is evidently of animal origin, and tho minute bone.s which wero ! discovered in tho came, indicate that it is i tho result of tho decay of bats, mice, &o. Tho quantity of organic matter which is still present m about 12 per cent., and this \ yields about 2? per cent, of ammonia. A portion of tho nitrogen is present aa nitric acid, of which about 3 per cent, wero found. All the nitrogen present would be equiva? lent to about 3$ per cent, of ammonia. The phosphoric acid in the Guano averaged about 12J per cent., equal to 27 3 per cent, of Bono Phosphate. A considerable quan? tity of the phosphoric acid, however, is present as so-called neutral Phosphate of Lime, which, being slightly soluble in water, renders tho Guano as quick in its action as a corresponding quantity of Su? perphosphates would do. The small per oentage of potash which was found in analysis adds to its value. From all the experiments which I have made of the Guanabani Guano no doubt can exist that it is a valuable maaure." ? Prof. H. O. White, of tho Georgia State Agricultural Society, says: "As shown by tho analysis, this Guano contains, in good proportion, all the elements which are generally considered as of valuo for plant food, and tho forms and combinations in which they aro present aro such as to ren? der them available to and assimilable by the plant. I should judge that tho proper uso ot this article f.?r pu; poses of fertiliza? tion would be attended with great profit." l'rot. Charles U. Shopard, Jr., iu a recent analysis of this Guano, says: "This Guauo (of animal origin) would appear from its physical and chemical properties to an? swer every reasonable expectation of a commercial manure Orders receivid and arrangenibnis made for its sale hv applicat ion to J.
