Somewhat Remarkable Suicide.? I The suicide of Deacon H. P. Seldon, of Hartford, who was found deed, hanging in a barn, the other night* is a somewhat remarkable one. He bad steady employment at Colt's armory, and his income was about 86,000 a year, bnt ho was constantly tormented by a fear of oomiug to want, and had not been quite sane for months. A short time before his death he went with his wifo to the cemetery, and, marking a spot for his grave, he gave a man 35 to take oare of it. HiB troubles were somewhat aggravated by patent medicines that he had tukeu pretty freely. There is a wide-Bproad impression that the recent reported earthquake in "WeBtcheetor Coauty, N. Y., was no? thing but the reverberntions of certain blasting operations that were in pro? gress betweeu 10 and 11 o'clock on Thursday night, on ouo of the high? ways, and at the uew tuunel on the other side of the Hudson. Thero is a great deal of testimony in support of this view of the oase of a very con? vincing character. The New York Sun BayR: 4'There have been several newspapers in this country bearing the name of the Re? public, but it is a curions faot that uo one of them has over succeeded in liv? ing over two years." It is because of their bad political principles. They will kill any paper. In the Commune of Givors, depart? ment of the Rhone, Franoe, there are '2,714 voters, und at a recent election there wua only one vote caBt. Indif? ference to the nominal right of self govorument eau no further go. Mail arrangements.?Northern mail opens G.3? A. M., 3 P. M.; closes IIA. M.,G P.M. Charleston opens 8 A.
