TT BY JULIAN A. SELBY. A Crazy Minister and His Eccen? tricities.?Some two yours or more nf$) there came to thiB County a Dr. Elliott, who took charge of a school at Washington. Ho soon became in? volved in an acrimonious dispute with the trustees and with many of tbo pa? trons of the school, giving rise to no little litigation and to much bud blood in the community. Ho baa managed in some way to get and keep posses? sion of the old court house property, and holds it in defiauce of the people of the towu to whom it belongs, claim? ing it as his own. Ho tried to poison the horses which were accustomed to being bitched to the fence of the court hon8e yard by poisoning the white? wash. The other evening he gave his consent to eome kind of uu exhibition being shown in - the old Clerk's office; but then, as if the natural perversity of the man was forcod to seek sumo outlet, be locked the gate of the court house yard, so us to prevent the ladies from going up tbo paved walk, and, compelled them to wade through an alley filled with tbo oudure of cattle and horses. Finding there was a Bcarcity of water, occaBioued by the protracted drought, and that the' water in tho well of the public property bad become a necessity to the people of the towD, he locked up the well to prevent them from using it, although it was then deep with water, and the people had alwuys beeu accus? tomed to use it. Ou Wednesday night, a number cf youog men determined to break off the lock. Dr. Elliott seemed to have beeu governed in his act by no other motive tbun a morbid desire to kill some one. He lay in wait for them, nod upon their approach, came from his ambush and commenced, without warning, to fire upon them with a revolver. To prevent being Bhot the young men closed with him. and in the struggle ho tried his bebt and nearly succeeded in shooting one of them through the head. At last he was thrown upon the ground, and the pistol, with which be tried to commit murder, was taken from him, and ho was then releaeed. He is an old mao? a minister in the Southern Presbyte? rian Church. [Maryaville (Ky.J Eagle, 21th. Even MaBaaohnaettB baa bottled npj Ben. Butler.
