BY JULIAN A. SELBY. A correspondent of the ?hiw'?er aV.lt writing from Camden, over the Bignaturo ot "I No," bus tbo follow ing: "At present, the utmost harmony exists between the two races, but uuy close observer oan seo there is a intent firo tbut needs but funning, aud I thiuk the presenoo of a few United States boys in blue will huve u very salutary efleet during tbe election." Wo cun beur testimony to tbo truth of tbe statement that the utmo.-d harmony exists between tho two races in Kershaw County, but tho "latent fire that needs but a fauuiug," cuu be found, if found at all, only in the ex? cited imagination of tbe writer. I Camden Journal. The business men and property owners of Chicago uro at length brought to face the problem of tiuus acting their business and holding their property securely without tho uid of the insurance companies. Tbe city government of Chicago having de? clined to take the precautions nguinst fire suggested by the National Board of Tire Underwriters in July last, that botfy has now issued a circular, ad? vising all companies to discontinue, the buduess of fire insurance in Chicago aftar tbe 1st of Ootober. No basis ut compromise or other adjustment is yet Btiggested, but it hardly seems possible tbft Chicago can for long dispense wlh the aid of the insurance com pniies. As business is now doue, Chicago merohants could get no credit ?i uninsured goods, and would, in ot, have virtually to go out of busi? ness. Money cannot easily be raised \\y mortgage on uninsured buildings. J fire whiob should at uny time de I roy the uninsured stock or buildings ?[ a wealthy citizen of Chicago, ootively < mneoted with its business system, iereby rendering him bankrupt, tight bring on a local financial crisis | i times of scarce money. The exped? ient on which Chicago soems fairly ntered is a novel and momentous one, be results of which will be awaited pith eager interest. SThe tobaoco growers of Virginia] ave been unfortunate this season. In ome of the Counties where this pro duot has' been extensively cnltivated, .there will not be ono-twentieth of the OBual crop seonred. In other Cohu ties, the crop will seldom yield more than one-half or one-third of the cus? tomary product, according to a corres? pondent of the Richmond Enquirer, vho has investigated the matter very iboronghly. How the Irish Team Take their Defeat.?The Secretary of the Irish Rifle Team recently said to a reporter: "I consider it the most remarkable rifle contest that has taken place. We utterly outdid onrselves, and you sur? prisingly outdid ns. It was an issue that we did not expeot, but, under the circumstances, a contest that we are not ashamed of. Do not consider mo as an individual, but regard mo as speaking for the entire team, when I say that we have had no saon contest in our lives, nor havo we ever before met with sach admirable marksmen as jou Americans. As far as tho range is concerned, it is admirable. It could not be bettor. It far exoels our range at borne. I wne perfectly delighted with it." The world's memory is short. It will forget you if you do not jog it fre? quently. Best Coal. Cheap for Gash. TBE undersigned is receiving hie supply of this burning material, which will be sold at low pricos, oheap for cash.
