Scott, Newberry. H. W. Lawson, Abbeville. Died from Fever and Exhaustion. Herrold Christiansen, n native of Sweden, about twenty-five years old, of good countenance and appearanoe, was found in an exhausted condition on last Friday, near Burlington, N. J,, making his way to New York. He ?was taken to the Oity Holl and kindly eared for, but it was without avail, and hb died on Tuesday, July 7. The deceased came from New York to Charleston, when ho became ill, and after his recovery undertook the jour? ney from Charleston to Now York on foot. Any one who can put up for ten days with the discomforts of tho steerage oan get to Europe just now very cheap? ly. Owing to the competition of tho various steam lines at New York, pass? age can be had as low as $12.50, and it is said that within a month the rntes will bo reduced to $10. The crowds that are taking advantage of tbeso rates cannot make the voyage an agree? able one. The steamship Britannic left New York on Saturday, with more than 800 cabin and steerage passen? gers. The fashionable oiroles of Washing? ton were a good deal startled within a day or two ago, by the announcement that a son of Rear Admiral Jenkins, aged about twenty years, had married a ballet danoer, named Frankie Chris? tie. It is said that Admiral Jenkins has disowned his son, and has sent ?word to the woman that she might support him, as she need expect noth? ing from him. It is also said that the Admiral is so muoh chagrined at his son's oonduot, that he purposes leav? ing Washington, not to return. Professor Donaldson haB made dur? ing the past week two ascents in a bal? loon from Baruum's Hippodrome, in seaoh of that oelebrated Eastern cur? rent which was to have carried himself and Wise, about a year ago, across the Atlantic. On neither occasion did Donaldson find what he sought. So the projected voyage of the air ship to Europe must, we apprehend, be post? poned indefinitely. Communistic Banquet.?The escaped members of the Oommunistio family assembled in London to celebrate tho escape of their friends from New Cale? donia, by a banquet. Rochefort was not present, believing that demonstra? tions of this nature were much more likely to damage than to servo the cause of Republicanism in France. A native of North Carolina, but a resident of Monroe County, Ind., cornea to tho front as the oldest living voter. He claims to be 115 years of age and to have voted ninety-four years. His eye-sight 'is good, health ditto. There are twenty-five granges of tho Patrons of Husbandry in Anderson County. An attempt is to bo made to im? peach Mayor Havomeyer, of Now York. A COLUMBIA, 8.
