Scott, Newberry. H. W, Lawsou, Abbeville i, An Ac reo title. Oh! if my love offended me, And we had words together, To Bhow that I would master be, I'd whip her with a feather! If, then, she, like a naughty girl, Would tyranny declare it, I'd give my love a oross of pearl, And make her always bear it! If still she tried to sulk and Bigb, And threw away my posies, I'd catch my darliug on the n!y, And smother her with roses! But should she olenoh her dimpled fists, Or contradict her batters, I'd manacle her tiny wrists With dainty golden fetters! And if Bbu dared her lips to pout, Like many pert young misses, I'd wind my arm her waist about, And punish her with kiesen. A 2S#invention has just been tried in Paris, which ib said to reudor drowning a thing of the past. It consists in the employment of a pneu? matic India-rubber tube rolled round the body, with a sufficient number of folds'to cob tain the necessary amount of air. The'tube is placed, concealed, in a double envelope, forming a shirt. It terminates by a mouth-piece, whioh shuts with the aid of a simple copper | button. The swimmer or immersed person has enough air for a whole day. When the apparatus comes to diminish in volume, it is easy to expand it again by the*.principal tobe, in deep water, withont any effort or ? difficulty. The trial was witnessed, at the Henry IV baths, when the inventor, M. Gosselin, ehowed its properties. He stood up? right, the hands raised abovo the head, when the water did not come above ths | Shoulders. He then floated on his back, with his arms crossed. The ap? paratus can be Worn under the olbthes like a flannel waistcoat, It extends from the neck to the knees, fastened in front by a row of buttons. It is composed of a double flannel, in the midst of v/hich an India-rubber tube oiroslates, starting from the top of the ohest, ascending to tho left side of the neck, and following the central line of the back'.' There it divides in two branches, endiroling the thighs as far as ihe knees. From the central part of the principal tube twelve to fifteen lesser tubes diverge to make the round of the body, and meet in front where the row of buttons is. This improve? ment on the life-belt is said to be cer? tain to supersede all existing appli? ances In teaohing swimming or saving I lifo from shipwreck. A spoonful of brown su gar added to flour paste makes it stickier. NO FAMILY* SHOULD,: at this Beaton, be without a bottle of HEINITHH'B ROBE COR? DIAL.
