Diamonds and Death.?The neigh? boring town of Corinth, on the Charles? ton Railroad, is greatly excited over a murder which, in point of mystery and genuine cold bloodednesa, jpvnla oar own Moore tragedy. Dr. RTT. Dunn, a former well known oitizen of this place, was the victim. ' The doctor was around town, as was his custom, until about 10 o'clock, when he returned to his room, which was on the ground floor. A window near the head of the bed was left open, the night being warm. About 11 o'clock, or an hour after he was seen to retire, a loud re? port was heard in the dirootion of the doctor's room. No cries- or other noises were heard. When the oitizens arrived at the room, a horrid sight met their eyes. The doctor wsb found lying in the bed with one Bide of hia face almost entirely shot off, while the head? board of the bed was literally peppered with scattering shot. He waa gasping his laat breath as the first person enter? ed the room. ? It is generally supposed that he was shot by some one through the open window. Up to last evening, no one had been arrested, but suspioion was pointing very strong at a married woman, with whom ho bad been asso? ciated. It is said that he became pos? sessed of a number of diamond? belong? ing to the woman, and that ho had re? fused, when requested by her, to give them baok. Her husband becoming cognizant of the transaction, is thought to have led to the assassination of the doctor.?MempJtis Avalanche. A bale of cotton was sold in Coving ton, Ga., on Monday, for fifteen cents- a pound, which was picked, ginned and packed in the fall of 1863. The rope and bagging was of Confederate manu? facture and presented a novel appear? ance. The owner had been offered forty two cents per pound for ten bales of cotton of the Bamo crop in 1865, and held it with the expectation of getting fifty cents. One by one the bales were sold at prices much lower than the first offer, until on Monday, the last one was hauled from the old shed and let go at iu'teen cents, The etaplo was beautiful and time only increased its snowy white? ness. At forty-two cents the ten bales of cotton would have brought 82,000. ~T1ib "Morris Cotton Gin." HAVING enlarged my business, I again1 oner the above Gin to tho planters of I South Carolina.
