But the most astonishing faot in the record of the expedition is the dis covory that Lakes Tanganyika and AI bort Nyanza are one and the same sheet of water. It is a magnificent inland son, 700 miles in length?the largest in the world. The elevated railway is to be used in New York by the post office to transport the mails to'and from the tapper sections of the oity. There are to be eighteen mails sent daily each way by this line, which, it is said, will considerably fa? cilitate business. The transportation of the mails between the general post office and its ontlying stations is greatly inter? fered with by the crowded streets, nnd consequent slow locomotion, which this plan will, to a great extent, relievo.
