HORBE Or?lNO AN^&iOTABIiE o7 iFENOE,?There has been1 L considerable controversy,, even among horsemen, cod - earning horso clipping; those who, con - tend that it is cruel to deprive the saw mal of the covering given him by nature being mot'by those who insist that the animals show much better feeling after they are clipped, and that after driving they oan be more easily and thoroughly cared for. It was left, however, for Judge Balcolrn, of the Supreme Court of New York, to declare horse clipping an ihdiotable offence. This he did in hia reoent charge to to the grand jury, and added that persons who were in doubt as to the oruelty could determine it by dressing themselves in linen clothes and straw hats and going out to ride on cold winter days; The Chicago Times was not pleased' with Stanley. It says: "His demeanor is that of a JFrenoh cavalry oUlcer crossed with a strong vein of the buffoon, 'and the tout ensemble is a blatherskite. * He has been called on impostor, a cheat, a swindler, and even a murderer, but so long a* he could look at that shriff-box he was satisfied that he was tha discover? er of Livingstone,. This was given in an overwrought "manner^ and so disgusted the larger portion of his audience that it was a general remark that; while'' there seemed to be good proof that Stanley! discovered Livingstone, they would like some proof that the mountebank before | them was Henry M. Stanley/' Mr. McOord, a citizen of TJpson Coun? ty, Qa.( was frozen to death last Satur? day1 night, while on hia way home from Thomaaton.
