minittrafcipQistsiwaQ. have been, felicitat? ing , thqmselves with the belief, .thatthe Cincinnati movement was stunned by the Presidential' election, and died with Horace Greeley, will soon discover that they have an exceedingly lively corpse upon their hands. Connecticut, the first State in which an election occurs, has opened the campaign by holding a Con? vention of Democrats and Liberal Re? publicans, which nominated candidates and adopted a platform. The very first resolution re-affirms the principles de? clared at Cincinnati and endorsed at Baltimore. The other resolutions ar? raign the President in the severest terms for his official misconduct; deplore tho influence of Federal office-holders in State eleotions; sympathize with Cuba in her struggle with Spain; and eulogize Horace Greeley. The candidate for Go? vernor, Charles R. Ingersoll, is a Demo? crat; the candidate for Lieutenant-Go? vernor is a Liberal Republican. The Connecticut Democracy propose to stick to tho polioy inaugurated last summer, and to make a vigorous fight on that line. Their chances for sacoesB are re? ported as highly encouraging; but apart from the general declaration of princi? ples contained in the platform, the con? flict will be waged mainly on local issues. A Nw Confidence Game.?A well dressed young man stopped at a Ver? mont hotel last week, for a few days, aud-mado acquaintances. The evening of theseoond day of his arrival a nice young lady came along, unattended, and instantly attracted the attention of the impressible youngster, who canvassed her charms fully as they set apart from her at supper. The stranger youth even went so far as to say that he would marry her if she would have him; and offered, for a substantial wager, to pop the question und have the marriage cere? mony performed right away. The wager was accepted, and also the proposal of marriage, made bo suddenly to her, by the yonng man, and the parson was called in, who soon united the twain. The sum wagered was paid over to the happy bridegroom, and he and his bride set off next day on their marriage tonr. What lends romance to the oiroomstance is the fact that the yonng couple had al? ready been man and wife for a your. f Concord (N. H.J Daily Patriot.
