?-? C ! u .JuV..-t-.-I ., A QAwasnoueCtoTjwrffloati;---Nujjlbkus op the Bills SoatteueS* Through, tele Sooth.?A now and well executed qqu? terfeit of the fllty dollar bill of the new issue of greenbacks baa been discovered lately by the Govern men t officials, and it is supposed a preonnoerted movement has been made to scatter them broadcast over the country, especially tho South, where it is supposed the majority of the people are not familiar with the designs of tue Federal currenoy. The counter? feit, though quite good, still has a few defects that are fata! to it' in the hands of even a tolerable judge of money. In the first place, thejspeoimens shown are not printed on fibre paper, though this may be done iu other issues, as the counterfeiters have succeeded in some instances in making a tolerable imitation of the Government fibre paper. The scroll work around the figure "50" in the upper left hand corner of the genu? ine is surrounded by Bcroll work of floe lines, crossing and reorossiug each other, but all made of one line that is continu? ous throughout, and its course can be plainly traced by the naked eye. In the counterfeit this effect is produced by a series of short scratohes. not connected together at all. Between the words ?'New"and "Series" in tho genuine a small ornamented dash is inserted, but is omitted in the counterfeit. In the vig? nette of Henry Olay, in the genuine, tho color of the hair on the right side ol the head is light near tho head and grows darker near the outer end; this is re? versed in the counterfeit. The most striking difference, howcrer, is in the co? loring of the seal, which is brick red tint, instead of the bright crimson of the genuine bill.?Savannah News. Ayonng Irdy, who prided herself on her geography, Betting a candle aslant, remarked that it reminded her of the loaning tower of Pisa. "Yes," respond? ed a wag, "with this difference?that is a | tower in Italy, while this is a tower in grease." George William Curtis, who does the ? *'f>id bachelor" srticlss in Uarpcr^s ?.1 zar, says if he had a son he would rather it should be remarked of him "that he is the son of a poor thongh worthy father, than the son of that rich old bachelor." Very likely. The Bale of about twenty American journals is now prohibited in the States J of the German Empire. Among them are about six New York papers.
