The Borne Journal announces a novel
breakfast party participated in by the
Dover Bathing Club. A floating table,
decorated with flowers, was anchored in
the bay, and upon it were laid cops of
hot coffee, eggs, bread and batter, &c.
About twenty members of the club then
sprang into the water, swam to the table,
and drank their coffee, ?co., the condi?
tion being that no one was to touch the
table itself. This necessitated a good
knowledge of the art of "treading water,"
and there waB plenty of fan for qaite
half an hoar, when the repast was
finished.
A Gurions law sait will commence
shortly ia Paris. Ou July 23, 1870, a
wager o? 200,000f. to 100,OOOf. was offered
/ in a newspaper that the French would be
at Berlin on the 15th of AuguBt. Oa
the following day, a merohaut addressed
a letter to the same journal, accepting
the wager, and he intends to nae for the
money by law.
Two things indicate an obscure under?
standing-to be silent when we ought to
oonverse, and to speak when we should
bo silent.

the drawing will positively take place ou

poned. An active demand for tickets comes
from every State and Territory of the United
States, and from the Canadas, giving assur?
ance to the Truatoea that no circumstances
can prevent i drawing at the appointed time.
A sufficient clerical force is eugaged to keep
np with the orders for tickets, and in order
that this offio? may.be relieved of the im?
mense pressure incident to the business for
the week or two immediately preceding the
