GOVERNMENT PICK POCKETING.-Presi? dent Grant, we are told, is an earnest advocate of civil service reform. His admirer and apologist, Georgo William Curtis, affeots to believe that civil ser? vice reform can only be accomplished by Grant. An encouraging sample of it we have in the Senate wing of the Capitol at Washington to-day. The whole of that great part of the building, except the Senate Chamber, is occupied by Go? vernment clerks engaged in packing, direotiog and sending to the mail Grant campaign doonments. A hundred Go? vernment employees are thns serving the personal interests of a Presidential can? didate, and are being paid their regalar salaries ont of the Government Treasury to which the friends of Mr. Greeley are forced by law to contribute. In other words, by means of the machinery .which the possession of the Government gives them control of, the Radical de? partment officials aro working for Grant at the expense of the friends of Greeley. This is civil service reform with a ven? geance. It is rather moro like down? right swindling. It is like picking the pocket of your neighbor to pay your own expenses. We trust that if this outrage on tho people continues, tho Greeley and Brown Committee at Washington will make a demand for possession of the other wing of the Capitol, and a hundred Government clerks (to be paid out of the Treasury) to direct and Bend off sound Liberal literature. [New York News. Tho Typographical Society of Charles? ton, S. C., unanimously elected Mr. Greeley an honorary member on the 5th instant, the date of its fifty-second J anniversary. A committee was selected 1 to go from Charleston to New York, bearing to Mr. Greeley tho notification of his election, and resolutions heartily commending his nomination, and hop? ing for his eleotion, were signed by every member of the society, including some of the oldest printers in tho United States, all the influential publish? ing firms of the oity, and men of all na? tionalities and all departments of litera? ture and the press. Mrs. Kachel Perry, a young and lovely woman, who had been married but three months to B. B. Perry, a merchant in Boon Hill, N. G., committed snioide on Wednesday of last week, by shooting herself with a pistol. No cause eau be assigned for the act. A person being asked what was meant by the "realities of life," answered: "Beal estate, real money, and a real good dinner, none of which oonld be re? alized without real hard work." Coal! Coal: ?
