Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives' of the State or" South Carolina, now met and silling in General Assembly, and by the authority of the same, That R. A. Sisson, Lewis Hey? ward, Washington Ash, Lewis Wilson, P. B. Lusk, Lewis Oarr, Robert L. Jones, M. D. Stone, Edwin Marks, Henry Johnson, T. H. Snyder, T. Sands and A. Boldgood, together with snoh persona who now, or may be hereafter, associated with them, be, and they are hereby, deolared a body politio and cor? porate, nuder the name and stylo of "The South Carolina Real Estate and Joint Stook Company," for the purpose of loaning out money on interest, pur? chasing and mortgaging real estate, buy? ing ana selling, or otherwise disposing of personal property; and they shall bave the same rights and privileges now enjoyed by banking corporations of this State; they shall also have undisputed right to dispose of any and all such pro? perty, real, personal or mixed, that they may become possessed of, in any man? ner, and on such conditions ns the said association, for their own iuter jat, may deem fit and proper. SEO. 2. That the oapital stock of said eompany shall consist of two thousand shares, to be paid in by successive monthly instalments of one dollar on eaoh share, or in such manner as their constitution and by-laws may hereafter provide for; and such shares shall be held, transferred, or assignod and pledged, and the holder thereof to bo subject to Buch' floes and forfeitures for defanlt in their payment as may here? after be provided. SEC. 3. That said oompany shall bave power and authority to make any suoh rules and by-laws for its government; and shall have suoh members and suc? cession of members and officers as shall be ordained and chosen according to their said rules and by-laws, made or to be made by them; shall have and keep a common seal, and may alter the samo at will; and shall have, and enjoy every right and privilege inoident and belong? ing to corporate bodies; and the said company shall, and is hereby, authorized to begin business in any County in this State, and to establish agencies at any points that may ba deemed advantage? ous to the interest and benefit of tho said company. SEC. 4. That all the rights conferred upon this company, as provided for in the preceding sections, shall be exclu? sive in this State, and all A ats conflict? ing are hereby repealed, and the com? pany hereby incorporated shall not be subject to any laws that may hereafter be enaoted. SEC. 5. That this Act shall be taken and deemed a publio Aot, and shall con? tinuo in force for tho term of twonty-five years. SEC. 6. Ii. Jamison, E. I. Odin, Isaac Speaker. Christian Oreen, T. O. Andrews, B. By as, George Bolivar, and their associ?tes and successors, are here? by made and created a body politic and corporato, under the name and style of the "Farmers', Laborers' and Mechanics' Land Company of Orangeburg County, South Carolina." SSEO. 2. That the said corporation here? by oreated and established Bhall have power to make such by-laws, not repug? nant to the laws of the land', and to have, UBO and keep a common seal, and the same to alter at will; to sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, in any court in this State; and to have and enjoy all such property, real and personal, aa may be given, bequeathed or devised to it, or may be, in any manner whatsoever, ac? quired by the said corporation: Pro? vided, The amount so hold shall not ex? ceed the sum of one hundred thousand dol?ais. SEO. 3. That the said corporation may, from time to timo, invest their funds, moneys, assets, and all other property, stocks, public or private, notes, bills, bonds, with or without security, by mortgage of real or personal property, or by surety, in such suras, and on Buch terms and conditions, as they may deem proper; and it shall bo lawful for said corporation, from time to time, and nt all times, to sell, convey, mortgage, as? sign or transfer all of its property, real and personal, as and when it may deem proper and expedient; and to make and execute bonds, under their corporate seal, with or without mortgage, for tho purchase- of real or personal property. SEO. 4. That the real and personal pro? perty of eaob corporator shall be liable for the debts of said corporation, in any amount not exceeding the par value of the stock held by him. SEO. 5. That this Act shall continue in forae for the space of twenty-ono years, and the same shall be deemed a pnblio Aot, and may be given in evidence with? out being specially pleaded. Chief of Police Jackson requests us to say that the following ordinauoes will hereafter bo strictly enforced, a resolu? tion to that effect having been adopted at the lust meeting of Council: AN ORDINANCE TO CLOSE BARBER SUOPS Ol TUB SABBATH DAY. Beit ordained, by the Mayor and Alder? men cf the city of Columbia, in Corindi assembled, and by the authority of the same, That from and after the pnsaago of this ordinance, it shall not bo lawful for any barber shop, in the city of Columbia, to bo kept open on the Sabbath day, nor for any barber to exercise ibo business of his trade on said day; and any person who shall offend against this ordinance shall, on conviction thereof before the Mayor, or any ono of the Aldermen, be fined notexceeding twenty dollars, (820,) at the discretion of the Mayor or Alder men, who shall try the case, which said fine shall be collected in the manner now provided by law. AN ORDINANCE FOR THE BETTER OBSERV ANCE OF THE SABBATH DAY. SECTION 1. Be il ordained, by the Mayor and Aldermen of the city of Columbia, in Council assembled. That from and aile the passage and promulgation of this ordinance, any merchant, shop-keeper or vender of wine, spirituous or malt liquors, in any quantity, either under a tavern or retail license, who shall keep his, her or their store, shop, bar-room or saloon open for tho transaction of busi? ness on tho Subbath day, shall bo sub? ject to a penalty of not more than forty five dollars, nor less than twenty dollars, at tho discretion of tho City Council of Columbia, for each and every violation of this ordinance. SEC. 2. And be it further ordained, That any person who shall publioly work or labor, or employ any other person to do so, on the Sabbath day, (except in cases of emergency,) shall bo subject to a penalty of ten dollars for each and ovory offence. SEC. 3. Be it further ordained, That this ordinance shall tako effect from and after its ratification, and that all ordi? nances and parts of ordinances repug? nant to this ordinance be, aud aro bore by, repealed.
