PENITENTIARY ANOTHER REVOLT.-The Raleigh (N. O.) News contains the following with refer? ence to another outbreak of the oonviots in the penitentiary at that place: Yesterday (Friday) was the regular scalding and wash day. Captain Hall, tho Deputy Warden, was snperintending this work in the cells. He was ap ?roached by a colored conviot, Austin tingo, sentenced to ten years, from Franklin County, for burglary, who commenced using abusive and insulting language towards the Captain. The Captain at onoe ordered the overseer to placo the man in confinement, whioh he proceeded to do, but before he got to the cell, tho conviot seized the overseer, wrested a stick or cabe from his band, and was getting the best of it, when Captain Hall ran up, bat tba conviot gathered a rock, and said to Hall, "You put mo in the shower bath yesterday, and now I am going to kill you," draw? ing back with his arm to Btrike at the same time. At this moment, the Cap? tain caught his eye, and with his piercing gaze, seemed io thwart his purpose. The guard, observing the difficulty, came in a double-quick at charge bayonets, when the convict turned upon them, throwing his stone, with great force, at one of the guard, who, raising up his gun, warded off the blow, whioh undoubtedly would have broken his sk?ll. He was bayonet? ed severely in tba left breast and thigh, when he surrendered. He was taken to his cell and Dr. Johnson summoned, who pronounced his wounds of a serious nature. The above are the facts in the case. We have endeavored to give a full, fair and unbiassed* statement of the whole disturbance-, with all the circumstances oonneoted therewith. Now, it is for tho pnblio to say who is at fault, and who will be responsible for the bloodshed yet to come, unless these poor, deluded loyal leaguers are relieved of the impres? sion that it is tho pnrpose and intention of their party to release them. THU SOUTH UNDER BAYONET RULE. Says the Washington Patriot: "The bearing of the Southern people, as a whole, under all that they have been forced, at the point of the bayonet, and in other ways hardly less tyrannous, to undergo, has been such as to command the respect and admiration of all candid and nnprejndiced mon. Theirs has been no common lot, their .sufferings no com? mon Bufferings, nor is what they havo lost to be measured by any common standard. Amid it all they have been brave, stout-hearted, courageous; not sullen nor despairing, though ' greatly tempted to despair; but looking forward, tbrongh present darkness and over pre? sent calamities, to the dawn of a better ' day. Their patience, their strength, their good oheer have not been in vain. The day is breaking, and this is doe in a great measure to their temperateness, wisdom, forbearance under trying cir? cumstances. It cannot bat be believed and hoped that the ezeroise of these will continue to the end. The recent past to the Sinthern people is a dreary waste. The opening future is full of promise to them as an integral part of the American people. And the time is not far distant when, relieved of the present embarrass? ments that impede their progress and bear them down, they will illustrate, for the encouragement of other nations and other times, how true it is That men may rise on stepping-stones Of their dead selves to higher things." The wealthy citizens of the "Hub" have a trick of changing their residences before the 1st of May, so as to avoid tax? ation on personal property. It seems that Boston loses in this way every year from $2,000,000 to $3,000,000 of taxes. The plan is to move ont of the city into some of the small suburban towns, where taxation is low, and every year the prac? tice is becoming more fashionable. "Here's your in-waders," shouted a member of the eleventh Mississippi regiment, as General Lee's veteran army plunged into the Potomac on its way to Gettysburg. "And here's your wetter nns," echoed a gallant soldier of the old fourth Alabama. A lady at Rochester, Minn., has ob? tained a patent for a fan, to be attached to ft newing machine, and opcratod by the same power as the machine. A little girl of Cedar Rapids, Michi? gan, recently suffered from ear-ache, and a sprouting sun-flower seed was afterwards extracted from her ear. Je H. K IN ARD.
