cent?, I am a native-born Republican,
and make my living honestly, and am
opposed to ali swindling and lying car?

The following are the facts of the
affray on the 28th instant: Aleck Brooks
called on me in an abrupt manner, and
asked roe why I did not. separate those
two boys on the 28th instant. I replied
that I did He then made ose of abu?

knife, threatening, and advanced to?
wards me, when I retreated into tho
back-yard, where I pioked np a piece of
wood to atop him, and told him if he;
followed me, I would knock him down
with it. I-threw the piece of wood'

into Messrs. Hendrix's store-he, Aleck!
Brooks, pursuing me. Brooks then
went round through the yard and into

with a knife, and went to the door, when
he made a thrust at me with his knife,
when I immediately resented it I then
went to proper authorities, stated tbe

have gentlemen to substantiate the abo re

WA UNI NO WORDS.-Tho strength and
nervous energy of tho human body ought to
be inoreased during the winter, for two rea?
sons. In the first place, diseases of the most
deadly oharaoter may be generated at this
season; and, secondly, it is of the utmost im?
portance that during tho cold weather months
the system should be put in a condition to
withstand the effects of the spring miasma,
and the subsequent depressing heat of ?nm
mer. It is therefore advisable, in fact essen?
tial, to tone, regulato and invigorate tho di?
gestive and secretive organs at this period of
)he year, and of all the Btomachios and alte?
ratives at present known, HOSTETTER'S
STOMACH BITTERS is the most powerful,
the most harmless and the most agreeable,
Tho tomporaturo of winter would he in itself
a glorious tonio, if it did not, unfortunately,
bring with it a volume of chilling moisture
and unwholesome winds, whioh have a bad
effeOt on the ekin and lungs. These must bo
guarded against, Or there ?B no security foi
health. The effect of a course of the Bitters
is to give vigor and tone to tho entire organi
zatiou-tho superficial muscles and nerves, as
well as the internal viscera. A regular habit
of body, a healthy and natural flow of bile,
an active digestion, a good appetite, pure
blood, and a vigorous circulation of tb at fluid,
are among tho blessings derivable from a per?
sistent uso of Hoetetter's Stomach Bitters,
which not only moro than supplies the place
of tho best tonics, cathartics and antiseptics
prescribed in their separate forma by physi
oians, but poi form the three-fold work of in?
vigoration, regulation and purification, at one
and the same time. Deo 29 +4
