excessive taxation und alleged fraudu?
lent and extravagant expenditures of the
State Government. A preamble and
resolution wero ndopted, declaring that
tho bonds heretofore issued are without
legal sanction, and tho so-called aterling
loan, or any other bonds or obli^-atious
hereafter issued, purporting to bo under
and by virtue of tho authority of the
present State Government, will not be
held binding on us; and that we shall,
iu every manner and at all times, resist
tho payment thereof, or tho enforcement
of any tax to pay tho same, by all legiti?
mate means within our po we". Tho
resolutions also provide for a State con?
vention of tax-payers, to meet in Colum
bia ou the 9th of May, which will confer
with tho Governor on tho dangerous
fiscal condition of tho State.
