Hall? the Arctic explorer, announced bia intention of renewing tbe searoh for the North Pole early in the spring of 1871. Ho said that before his bearors saw him again ho would pat bis.foot down on the pole, and have tbe North star directly over his head; hardships would have to be encountered, bat he would have "the s&tipfaotion and glory" of standing where no white man bad ever stood before. Last week the engineer of a train on the Boston and Albany Bond, having ruo down a market wagon, stopped tho train as soon as possible to learn tho re? sult of the accident. Upon dismount? ing and looking on the platform con? nected with the cowcatcher, ho found a respectable looking mun, well muffled hp, with a bag of oats and a tub of but? ter by his side, sitting very composedly, apparently on his way to marketl Ho was not hurt in the least, though bis team was knocked into kindling wood. The Dublin newspapers, speaking of the terms of the amnesty to the Fenian COnviots, say that tbe conditions of tho pardons are that tbe released prisoners shall not retnrn to Ireland until after tho expiration of their respective sentences. Those condemned to fivo years' penal nervi tn do will be free to retnrn in about a year, and those sentenced to twenty years will be exiled for fifteen years, lt was at first supposed that the banish? ment was to be perpetual. Tbe bunters of Siberia, when pressed by hunger, take two pieces of board, and, placing one on tbe pit of tho stom? ach and tbe other on the back, grndually draw together the extremities, and thus allay, in somo degree, tho cravings of appetite. This is supposed to bo a vory economical kind of board, and it is re? commended to tho Parisians. New Books at Bryan & McCarter'c, THE Lifo of Lord Palmerston, by Bulwer.
