As for Columbia, wo presume that no ? argument is necessary to convince its citizens of tho importance of extending a liberal aid to the new enterprise, in connection with the State Agricultural nnd Mechanical Society, whose grounds nre here. It seems now to be settled tb ut Columbia is to bo the seat of tho annual State Fairs-being central and accessible. Such being the oase, lier mord?ante and business men generally must Geo tho point, and see to it tbat our city provides ber quota. The ad? vantages to Colombia are great of these annual re-unions. In the course of last week, nt least $50,000 must have been disbursed in this eily. The clear gains resulting from these disbursements, to say nothing of the advantages of the disbursements themselves, will givo some practical idea of bow maob Columbia will get from a prosperous State Fair. We must do our part, and we shall do it. Premiums Awarded at the Recent Val? . Our readers will find in another co? lumn tho official list of premiums award? ed ut the recent Fair; and, doubtless, omissions have been made, and com? plaints ill-founded and well-founded will bo made. It is impossible to give uni? versal satisfaction, as some of the Com? mittees are no doubt careless, andsome in compotent; but the effort, we doubt not. is nlwnys mudo by the Executivo Corn mitteo to do the best that their circum? stances will allow. It should be remem? bered thut a vast deal of work is crowded iu the three days of tho Fair; and tho largo-miudcd contributor will not allow any little disappointment to affect his energies in tho good cause. Wo are pleased to learn that* at tho last meeting of the State Agricultural and Mechanical Society, on Friday Dight, 11th, it was resolved hereafter to have the Fair from Monday to Saturday, and thus give tho officers aud committees more time wherein to do their work. Other arrangements were agreed upon which justify us in giving the assurance that im? proved systems and now agencies will be introduced into the next Fair. We must gather wisdom by observation, and culti? vate the spirit of a progressive develop? ment. Joseph T.
