Her extreme length was about thirty feet, with fivo or six feet beam, and about "five or six feet depth of hold. In general contour sho resembled a cigar, sharp nt both euds. Besides her rudder, which was of thc usual form, this vessel was equipped with side paddles or fins, which, like those of a fish, served to guido it up 01 down with reference to tho surface ol the water. Brave Dixon guided tho torpedo fairly against her, tho explosion toro up tho great war- ship's sidos, so that shu went down with nearly all her crew within two minutos. Tho torpedo vessel also disappeared forever from mortal view. Whether sho went down with her enemy, or whether she drifted out to sea to bury her gallant dead, was never known, and their fate wns left till tho gi*eat day when the sea shall give np its dead. But within a low weeks past, divers in submarino armor havo visited tho wreck of tho Housatonic, and they havo found tho little torpedo vessel lyiog by her hugo victim, and within ber are the bones of tho most devoted aud during men who ever went to war.
