Trocha.
The appointment of Gen. Trocha io
the military command of Paris is ono of
the boldest steps yet taken by tho Empe?
ror. It bas had the effect which it was
intended to have, of reconciling Parin to
the government of the Count of Palikao;
and it will undoubtedly do more towards
strengthening the resistance of France
to her invaders, than any other measure
whieh has been adopted Binco the disas?
ters of tho Eastern frontier. But pre?
cisely because it strengthens Franco and
pacifies Paris does it menace tho "per?
sonal empire" with final dissolution.
Qen. Troohu is a man of great military
genius and ability, who has been kept as
for in the back-ground as his surpassiug
abilities would permit, because ho has
never given his cordial support to tho
Imperial Government. He is neither a
Republican nor a royalist as such, but a
soldier who understands tho principles
of liberty sufficiently to regard them as
the sole foundation in modern times of
durable national strength. This thc
people of Paris kuow. They look upou
bim in the present crisis of tho natiou
and the Government as they looko 1 upon
Gavaiguao in the tremendous days of
June, 1848, when a provisioual govern?
ment far weaker and moro incapable
than tho Government of Napoleon trem?
bled and hesitated before an enemy moro
terrible than many Crown Princes and
King Williams. lu tho event of uew
disasters to tho French army, Trocha
woald almost certainly pass from tho mi?
litary government of Paris to tho head
of the nation. In the event of victory
over the invaders, he will become the
irresistible standard-bearer of a really
free and responsible administration of
the Government. Meanwhile, aud ns a
military measure only, his command of
Paris assures to Marshal Bazaine the
fullest and most persistent reinforcement
of his armies at Chulons. Tho two com?
manders are in constant communication
by telegraph; and Paris, under Trochu,
is made a part of the mighty forces
fighting for France at Chalons under
Bazaine.-Hew York World.
Special Notices.
CHOLERA :- Tho following lotter is from
Mr. 'Woodward, of St. Louis, to J. N. narrie,
EBq., of New London. Conn. Mr. W. is a gen?
tleman of high respectability, and during the
prevalence of tho cholera in St. Louis,
watched tho result of the application of the
Fain Killer for this diseaso, and his testimony
can be reliod upon with tho utmost confidence:
DEAR Sm: You recollect when I saw you in
January last, my expressing to you my most
sanguino expectations that Davis* PAIN
KILLER would havo a tremendous sale in Hie
West this season, and my anticipations have
been more than realized, and tho testimony
of thousands who hove used it has been that
they would not be willing to go to bcd at night
without it in tho house.
On tho appearance of tho cholera in this
city, Buch was tho coD?donco in thc Pain
Killer as a remedy, that many who purchased
it remarked to mo that they bad no fears or
dread of tho cholera, as long aa they hud thc
Pain Killer by them, and hundreds took it1
daily as a preventative, for no person can
have a doraugemcnt of tho bowels or diar?
rhoea, if they uso thia modicine. This was
the security and confidence of hundreds
acquainted "with it, and when their friends
wore attacked with tho Cholera, they would
administer tho remedy in largo quantities,
and In every caso when it has been taken in
any of the first stages of this disease, it hus
proved successful.
I consider it an infallible remedy. I have
not beard of any individual in any family who
need tho Pain Killer when attacked, but
speedily recovered.
The clerk informed mn that ho administer?
ed it to persons when cold or in the cramps,
and it gave immediate relief, but still it
should bo given quickly, for when tho dis?
charge of "rico water" bas begun, the hone
of life has fled. Should thia disease make its
appearance among you, as in all probability it
will, bo not alarmed; you and all others there
have the remedy, and I am confident if the
Pain Killer is used, not a singlo death by cho?
lera will occur in your city. Respectfully
yours, A. T. WOODWARD.

THE SEASON OF KXHAl'STIO.v-The
close sultry weather which usually prevails
toward tho end of summer is particularly un?
favorable to the feeble and enervated. Even
the well-knit frames of strong men feel tho in?
fluence of tho season, aud lassitude and
languor pervade the whole community.
Ladies, especially those in delicate health,
Buffer much from debility, occasioned by the
hamid boat, and feel tho want of a whole?
some invigorant. In fact, a necessity for
something to recruit the exhausted system is
experienced, more cr lees, by everybody, and
the only question ia, what chat something will
be. With those who havo tested tho eneet of j
HOSTETTER'S STOMACH RITTERS on
themselves, or haye observed its effects on
others, this qucation will not bc in doubt for
a single momont. Its tonic and regulating
operation, and ita agency in creating
healthy appetite aud promoting digestion, arc
rightly classod by all who have resorted to
this unequalled vegetable invigorant and
correctivo, among tho most extraordinary
therapeutic wonders of modern times, lt
should be taken at this season us a safeguard
against tho epidemic discuses which aro
apt to attack thc relaxed system in the tall of ?
the year.
Ab ic is understood that mercenary specula?
tors in varions parts of the country uro en?
deavoring to supersede the standard tonic of
tho age with worthless articles manufactured
by themselves, which they represent to bo
superior to this long tried rcniedv, it is proper
to put tho publicon their guard against this
species ot imposition, and to warn the
against thc deleterious trash with which dis?
honorable dealers seek to drench them.
