Tho ladies of a town ont there have given to the editor of tho paper an embroidered shirt, which con? tains a pictorial history of Texas, includ? ing the war with Mexico, and meeting of the first Legislature, and also pictures of the fruits and cereals of the Stnte, all worked in red and worsted. The editor never wore a shirt in his life, nnd ho thought it was a banner for tho temper? ance procession which was to como off the next week. So ho mado a little speech of thanks, in which ho Baid ho would "fling it out forever to tho breezes of heaven, that they might kiss its folds, and that, until his hand palsied, it should never be trailed in the dust-never." The ladies didn't understand him; and when he talked about trailing they blush? ed, and said they were very sorry they made it too long. But a committee? man took the editor aside and explained the shirt to him in n whisper, and the next day he appeared at tho office with that shirt mounted ovor his coat, and wrote four columns of explanation for his paper. The shirt is much admired by the boys of the town, and whenever the editor goes out for a walk ? hoy fol? low him in regiments, studying tho his? tory of Texas and tho fine arts, off the back of it. COOLNESS.-John Mitchell, tho Irish patriot, says that tho re-organization of tho Confederate army, at Yorktown, in the very presence of McClellan's troops, is the most remarkable instance of cool? ness on record. Divisions nnd brigades changed commanders; privates became colonels, and colonels became privates. Day after day the elections wont quietly on, under the fire of tho Federal artillery, and the Confederates [were moro con? cerned abont the result of the various elections than about the movemonts of the "little Napoleon." Mitchell says that the Southern people, instead of [be? ing raab, and impulsive, aro tho most | phlegmatic race on earth. If somo enterprising Indiana Judge would open a court in Russia, he could make us much in a day there, ns in a ?ear here.
