It is not the wisest man nor the wisest
newspaper that knows best how to deal
with the tender emotions of the human
heart. The "simple creature named
Higgins, who used to haul rock for old
Matby," had far more sense about such
things than the Sun, with all its boasted
iddictedness to the genial habit of shin?
ing for all. "When the lamented Judge
Bagley tripped and fell down tho Court
House stairs and broke his neck," says
Mark Twain, in the Juno Galaxy, "it
was a great question how to break tho
news to poor Mrs. Bagley. But finally,
the body was put into Higgins' wagon,
and he was instructed to take it to Mrs.

A SHREWD HODGE.-A singular dodge
to obtain free transportation was lately
perpetrated in Memphis. A mau named
Schwartz confessed to having murdered
a Louisville irou founder, named Par?
kins, three years ago. He stated that ho
had beeu running away, hauutcd by the
crime long enough, aud requested that
ho might be arrested and brought to
trial. Now it turns out that Perkins was
not murdered, that ho was uot au irou
founder, and that he never lived in
Louisville, and that Schwartz is a dead
beat, who merely wished to be sent from
Momphis to Louisville with nu escort
suitable to his rank.
A German archiologist engaged in ex?
ploring tho extensive plain on the const
of Asia, Asia Minor, believed to have
been the site of ancient Troy, claims to
have discovered the remains of a massive
wall, about eight feet thiok. The exca?
vations are extensive, and the explorer
says that the ruins are the remains of the
palace of Piram.
