has despatches from Europe somewhat
confirmatory of outrages upon Jews in
Romania.
Emery's majority is over 3,DOD. The
vote reached 1,000 of registration. Ma?
ny negroes voted and electioneered open?
ly for Emery without molestation from
their colored fellows. Tho rejoicing
throughout the oity is almost universal.
Tho Brown men have only two members
of the upper, and five of tho lower
board. Three colored men were elected
to Council on the Emery ticket.
In thc House a bill authorizing terms
of the Federal Court at Helena, Arkan?
sas, passed. A bill regulating election
contests was tabled. Tho currency bill
was considered. A bill authorizing in?
creased mail facilities between Cedar
Keys and Havaua, was referred to tho
Post Office Committee. Tho Reconstruc?
tion Committee added n proviso to the
Georgia bill, that nothing therein should
interfere with the election this fall, as
provided in the Georgia constitution.
Also, resolved to take no action regard?
ing Tennessee this session.
In the HOUBO, a bill passed allowing
deputy census marshals about fifty per
cent, increase of pay. It goes to the
President. The currency bill elicited a '
long debate. Tho House is in session j
to-night discussing the subject.
Tho Senate then debated on rules and j
tho Indiau Appropriation Bill.
In Senate, tho Committee on Educa?
tion report adversely to the incorpora?
tion of blind asylums in tho District
of Columbia. Harris introduced a bill ,
granting tho right of way and lands to

Southern Pacific Railroad. Considera?
ble opposition to the donation is arising,
from the fact that the Southern Pacific
Railroad is but another name for the
Central Pacific Company, which owns all
the railroads in the State, and will thus
control the Central Pacific route from
this coast to the East. The British ship
Wm. Wilson sailed for Barkon's Island
yesterday. The vessel was in possession
of the United States Marshal pending
tho suit in tho District Court. Tho cap?
tain forced tho marshal overboard. It is
rumored that revenue cutters will be scut
in pursuit.
A Portland, Oregon, telegram says the
election passed off quietly. The Repub
cau8 claim a majority in that city and
County and some gain in other Counties,
but believe the vote in the State is very
close.
