Because, if tue said election wan other wiso regular, it is further ohjectod to in this, that if the Act under which tho said election was held bc constitutional, then tho said new board of Mayor and Alderman, if elected to go into office on the - day of April, 1372, and if by tho said election it is intended to scat tho new board and ouat the presont board beforo tho expiration of their term of office, tho samo ia unwarranted in law, and tho said Act un? constitutional and void. 11. Because tho said election is otherwise untuir. unlawful, fradulent aud void. TERRIBLE CALAMITY IN RANDOLPH COUNTY.-A_correspondent wriliug from Cuthbert to tho Macon Journal, under I date of Wednesday last, says: A serious casualty, and one which has I cast a gloom over the entire community, occurred near this village this morning. We were visited, by a heavy thunder? storm and shower. Mr. G. B. Smith, a citizen of this County, living n few' miles ont, well known and respected by all, was sitting with his family around the tire-side, when tho lightning struck tho chimney, and, following its flue, pros? trated him and his entire family, con? sisting of his wife and three ohildren. Mr. Smith was sitting immediately in front of the fire-place, his wife on oue side, and a minister, Mr. Armstrong, who had spent the night with them, on the other. Mr. S. wan killed instantly-hav? ing his neck broken. Mrs. Smith was severely shocked and seriously burned, there still being much doubt ns to her recovery. The children wero all more or less injured, but not dangerously so. Mr. A. was the first to revive after the shock, and, upon arousing, hurriedly proceeded to pour water upon Mr. Smith. About this time the laborers, who had been shut up in auother house during thc storm, came in and told him the house was burning. Mr. A. then proceeded, with tho assista tum of the workmen, to remove tho ?family, nod by the time they wore loiooved, and before anything could be saved from tho flames, the roof hogan to fall in. Nobody supposes that Horace Greeley is a fool; yet Horace Greeley, or, at any rato, the New York Tribune, says that tho musses of Northern men who "wa? tered Southern bnttle-fields with their life's blood," did it "to pr?seme to the world an absolutely free goc?rnmet.tl" It is true, the Tribune does not say that these soldiers accomplished tho purpose for which they came hither, but it evi? dently means that thoy did. This "ab? solutely free government" appears to us of tho South, who are still ruled by the bnyonot, to bo very much like the free governments in Ireland, Hungary, Po laud, ludia, etc., which appear to Eng? land, Austria, and Russia, as tho best that could possibly exist, but to all the rest of the world as grinding despotisms. But, then, we aro not capable of judg? ing. Ws must needs refor such ques? tions to tho decision of our Northern "brethren," who aro amazed thnt wc should have a doubt ou the subject.
