One of the points nando therein undertakes a reformation in a matter ?which ?egr-itimately belongs to our lady readers, and to them these learned doc? tors address themselves thus: A handsome leg is a rarity, wo had almost said an impossibility, among American women. The reason of this is the place where they wear their garters. No French woman nor English woman of onltivation now-a-dnys, wears her gar? ter below tho knee. It is ruinous to the shape ol tho oalf. More than this, it has seri?os consequences of another kind. The principal vein of the leg (vena saphena brer is J nina just beneath the skin until it nearly reaches the knee, when it siqks between the muscles. Now, if this is restricted at its largest part by a tight garter, tho blood is checked in its return to the heart, the feet are easily chilled, and more liable to disease, the other veins of the leg are swollen into hard blue knots, become varicose, as it is called, and often break, forming obstinate ulcers. This is a pic? ture which a physioian sees nearly every day. With a garter fastened above the knee, all this pain and deformity is avoided, but it is still better to weer no garter at all, and suspend the stocking by tapes to a belt, around the waist. In this case, however, a well-fitting stock? ing is needed. A man in Cincinnati a fow days ago suddenly lost the sight of one eye, with ont any premonitory symptoms. To all outward appearances tho eye is as good as ever, but the sight is entirely gone. A "fashionable divorce" is announced in New York. The partios may be fash? ionable, but they are evidently not well connected. About twenty-five per cent, of tho five cent, nickel coins redeemed nt the New York sub-treasury havo been dis? covered to be counterfeit. At a recent Halifax duel both princi? pals ran off at the first shot, leaving their seconds to settle tho matter. "To-night you git or dangle," is the notice served on tho thugs of Wyo? ming.
