A three per cont, tax on in? comes over 91,000 and under $2,000, would bo enough. Estates, however, could very well pay fivo per cent., be? cause the tax in snoh cases does not bear directly on individuals. Communities, too, should be made to pay on income, iu excess of $1,000, after allowing $500 fdr the nnpport of each male artisan or laborer. A change that is most urgently needed, is in the case of a man with a f?mily, whose income ia small. Under ' the law, at present, a man with a large I family, having asmall income over $1,000, I has to pay os much as a single man with I the esme income. The single man can pay the tax without much inconvonionce, while the man with a family, finds it very difficult. To the $1,000 exemption, ought to be added $500 for each child under eighteen years of age, and for old or infirm persons dependent upon the tax-payer. Tho law now does not ope? rate equally upon different classes of the community according to their means and demands Upon them. Capitalized wealth and large i noora ca from business can best bear the burden. ' We hope, if the in? come tax is'.to be continued, Congress will modify it in accordance with justice and the means of individuals. [Nsw York Herald. KIOUTKRN PERSONS KILLED IN A THEA? TRE.'-A fearful acoideut recently oc? curred at the New Theatre Royal, Bristol, Eugland. Boiug boxing-night, a Christ? mas pantomime called ''Robinsou Cru? soe, * was aunouueed. There was a tre? mendous emull at the pit aud gnllery entrance, which is approached dowu a deelivity from the roadway, but which is fully twenty feet wido. A large number of persons were thrown down and trampled upon. Seventeen corpses have been taken out, but nono have been iden? tified. Excursion trains from the coun? try brought many to the city. A cry of "fire" wa? raised, aud the po? lice constable on duty states that heoried "fire" after some people were down, to induce others to retreat, which they did. The performances proceeded, the malin? ger being fearful of creating fresh pauio by stopping them. There are, in all, eighteen deaths. Four of tho bodies have been identified. Tho persons killed are in humble ciroamstunces. There was much painful excitement in viewing the corpses for identification. A most distressing accident occurred in Covington, Ky., about 9 o'olock Sa? turday morning. A man named Edward Clark, brakeman on the Kentucky Cen? tral Railroad, who resides on Stowart street, or alley, between Madison and Washington, was playing with his little son, a child not quito three years of age, and, in order to frighten him, (the same old story, tho render will observe,) point- L ed a gun, which ho supposed to be un-/ loaded, at tho little fellow and pulled the] trigger. Ta his horror, tho weapor/j proved to have contained a heavy uhargr of shot, and the entire load lodged hi his Hon'a head, killing him almost ip-1 stantly. Tho child was sitting near his ' mother, when tho terrible accident oc? curred. Simultaneously with tho dis? charge of the gun, he fell over, and exclaiming, "Oh! ma!" expired la a minute or two. MARRIAGES IN ATIABAMA.-A strange complication arises in Alabama, which may call for reconstruction iu n new phase. The Supremo Court of that State has deoided that marriages solemnized therein dubing the war are nulland void. The reasons given are that thAProbate Judges are not judge? in theJHal House, und could not legally iss^Bhnarriugo licenses. All snob given d^BEtbo pe? riod named were invalidlUffedn tho Legislature (so Buys the Court) ratify a judgment pronounced or action done by illegal authority. All this iu very lively, and will, no doubt, be very agreeable to many who uren peuliug ut leisure. Those who waut can cosily marry nguiu, aud children born in unwedded wedlock can certainly be legitimatized by act of Le? gislature.
