NEGRO PAGE IX THE SENATE.-A Wash? ington letter says: Andrew Slade, a bright mulatto boy, son of Slade, the late colored steward at the White House, has been appointed a page to the Senate by Sorgeant-at-Arms French. The boy has not yet made his appearance on the floor of the Senate, but is on duty in the corridors. It is, however, probable that he will be assigned as special page to Senator Sumner. The San Francisco Alla shows that there has been a decline of $4,888,706 in the receipt of gold there during the past eleven months, as compared with the samo period last year, and a decline of $1,808,468 in the receipt of silver, mak? ing a lessened production equal to $6, 677,175, or about seventeen percent. There are now to be seen, through poworful glasses, six clusters of spots upon the sun. In view of the immo? ralities, corruptions, sins and wickedness generally prevailing in this region, we should not be surprised if the sun were to veil his face from us altogether. [New York Express. A vessel coming in contact with a bridge in course of construction at Mayence, brought down the whole structure and caused tho death of forty workmen. A Houston editor who has Lone Star notions of orthography and syntax re? marks: "Hamilton is beat for Go vernor; he is a dead-beat, and his nose is as red as a beet." The Tennessee delegation, except Sen? ator Cowler and Representative Haw? kins, are engaged preparing a protest against the legality of the Tennessee election, praying Congress to set it aside. Alfred Canicker, of Charleston, S. C., was robbed in a panel house, in Bleecker street, on Thursday night, of $1,5J0. Two women and a man were arrested, but the money has not been recovered. Mr. Brunen Jones, of Lancaster, while engaged in foiling timber on Thursday lust, was struck on the head with the fragments of a limb and instantly killed. A number of American citizens are about laying a cabio between New York State and the coast of Spain. It is ex? clusively an American undertaking. Secret political societies are said to have been discovered in Moscow and the interior of Russia, preparatory to an out? break on the 17th of February next. A great many Carolinians, who lately removed to Arkansas, would gladly re? turn if they had the means to defray the expenses of the trip. It is stated on good authority that the Alabama claims negotiation will he re? opened in Washington. It is stated that General Cunby has written a letter adverse to Virginia's ad? mission, without stringent restrictions.
