CHINESE IMMIGRATION.-We under? stand that some 1,600 Chinamen hate been ordered through the agency here, chiefly by citizens and planters along the coast. The greater portion of them are designed for the rice and cotton fields, though quite a number have been ordered by oar citizens for cooks, houoo servants, washers, Sec. ' Tbey are expected in January, and. our people Spear to be confident of the success the experiment. If th^o present in? dention and unreliability of the black servants should continue, in a few years j the Chinese, should they prove other wise, will occupy most of the posts of labor, on the coast. Being accustomed to the negroes, we prefer them to all other persons as domestics and labor? ers, and considering them in the light of | a trust from Providence on our hands, Jwo should regret to see them abandon led. But they must do their duty, and ?become good and industrious members j of the community, or else their doom ?ill be fixed.
